Ain't this a bitch:

I goes through all the trouble to ensure almost everything is right on my 13 speed install and even decide since the trans is new to use the expensive synthetic lube. After dumping in about 30 pints, (has a PTO installed) through the top cover while watching the fill plug opening in the side, the level reaches the threads. Stopping the flow of oil, and removing the dispenser, I grab a creeper and slide under the truck to reinstall the fill plug. Once under the truck what do I spy, a mother$^*^%$ drip!!! WTF is this shit here I'm thinking??? The damned rt. side counter gear bearing cover is leaking through the gasket. Tightening up does no good so I'll have to remove the cover and replace the gasket. I rebuilt and resealed the PTO while it was off and it no longer leaks as does the power steering pump. I hate leaks!!

Now that the driveline is back in and trans full of oil, I was gonna start the engine but after three full months of sitting, the batteries were flat. I've been running the interior lamp, and exterior lamps some without ever starting the engine. I placed the truck on two amp "maintainer" with the shop charger and will try tomorrow. I'll drain the trans also while it's still clean.

That slimey synthetic crap will find a leak and make it worse. Likely woulda been dry as a bone with that chunky thick grease in it!

Coulda been like mine triplex when I pulled a cover off years back. Once I put it back on and replaced the grease, the cover on the other side had rusted a pin hole and decided to leak. Grrr, drain it back out and replace that cover.

Whew, glad I'm not the only one that has that type of stuff happen. Hang in there.

This kinda shit happens to me all the time so don't feel you're alone......

Tonight I rolled the original five gallon container under the drainplug after breaking it loose. I then unscrewed the plug and held it to restrict drain oil flow into the funnel as to not overflow. I then left the container under the open drain hole to drain overnight. I'll swap the gasket tomorrow afternoon.

Now Now Rob,

Thats not so bad... I could remember not to long ago changing the oil in one of my freightshakers, I pulled the pan plug an said 'I'm gona take this plug over to the parts cleaner an clean this nice plug up!! So I clean it up, go back under the tractor, the kid comes over to ask me for a phone # that I had in in my top pocket sooo.. I put the plug on the top of the front spring, get the phone # out of my pocket go up on top

an start pumping in the new oil... now, new oil mixed with old oil is not a pretty site!! 2 bags of speedy dry later!!! NEVER EVER AGAIN WILL I CLEAN THE FREAKEN PAN PLUG!!!

Hi Ernie, I learned that lesson on a brand new 1974 Chevy pickup. Guy brought the truck in for it's first oil change, I drained the oil without problems. When installing the oil filter the telephone rang and I got up to answer it. Long story short is that I never put the drain plug back into the oil pan and five quarts of oil later when the "slick" is encasing my tennis shoes, I noticed it.

You know how hard it was to spend 79 cents a quart at the autoparts store to replace it? I made $1.75 an hour back then!! My cruisin was done for the day over this seemingly small screwup.

Broke my heart cause I didn't get to see the girl of my dreams, ("Momma"). Yeah, we was dating back then and I still had testicles........

If it is still leaking that is a good thing, cause you still have fluid. When it stops you're in trouble cause it's out!!!! :tease: . That is what the flight chief said the first time I flew in a Chinook helicopter. Smart ass Marines!!! LOL

oh,,your not the first one to do that,,,when i was a sub hauler, and had my oil changed,by mack,i used to request they come get me from the waiting room so i could watch the mechanic tighten that plug,,i realize everyone makes mistakes, and just a loose drain plug,,can be awfully expensive, and they used to appreciate my request.bob

Got her fixxed up tonight. Removed the shifter tower again, removed the counter gear cap, (gasket was split) and replaced gasket with new one. I did give it just a touck of gray "Permatex" sealant and reinstalled, then refilled everything. No leaks now and everything is good.

Yes, even I...onced changed the oil in my hot rod '72 Nova. Used that expensine Union 76 racing oil, I worked at a 76 station, and dumped 5 quarts in before I realized i'd never put the drain plug back in.
