Can someone explain the difference between two different 1947 Mack "L" Model fire trucks?

The Boston Fire Department had several fire trucks delivered during 1947 from Mack. The Model numbers are of a different type, though. For example, the first is Serial # 85LS1152. The second is Serial # 19LS1064. I'm guessing the last four numbers are the individual identification for that truck.

But what is the difference between a "Model 85LS" and a "Model 19LS?" Is/are the difference(s) visible?

Also, can anyone recommend a good book and/or website on Mack "L" fire apparatus?

Many thanks in advance.

Just Wondering-

The 19LS was heavier and had a 1000 GPM pump and 707 Gas Engine, the 85LS was 750 GPM pump and 707 gas engine

The 19LS and 95LS were very similar- most 19LS had multistage pumps.

The best book is the Mack Model L fire truck book by Harvey Eckart.

I will see Harvey Saturday at the Mack show in Lititz, PA

I can check to see if he has any more or you can check ebay.

Firemack

The book's title is "Mack Fire Trucks 1911 - 2005" It is available on Amazon.

I think you will find that the 19 series rigs were assigned to the downtown companies that had the ability to use the FD only high pressure water supply system that ran through the so called "high value" district.

Money, sex, and fire; everybody thinks everyone else is getting more than they are!
