What An Idiot!

That would be me- I went over and put new batteries in the mixer today. I took the old ones out and made a mental note to myself how they were hooked up. Took them down to Carquest in Appomattox and got the new ones, went back to Concord and put them in then hooked them up backwards anyway! What a dumbass!

I turned the switch on and wondered why the air buzzer wasn't buzzing. So I turned the marker lights on, and smoke started rolling from behind the dashboard. Ran around and pulled the cables off as quick as I could, fortunately I hadn't tightened them yet!

I then hooked them up like they were supposed to be, and it started and ran fine and all the lights worked. I'm still gonna take the dash out and look to see if any wires were damaged. Hope it didn't hurt the alternator either, but if it did and that's all i'll still consider myself lucky for being so stupid- could have been worse. Scared the hell out me!

Dont feel bad ol buddy, i've done the same on the trailers we pull. My trailer has just 1 12 volt battery, but we have 2 trailers that has 6 volt batteries in them. Looked like i was tryin to weld when i had to jump that trailer off.....lol

Did the same thing on a traded in RD once when switching from 6 volt to 12 volt batteries, for some reason I hooked the 12 volts up in series just like the 6 volts were. I think it was because of sun stroke that I did it, least that's the story I'm gonna stick with.

A few days ago out at the crusher shack were we hand when waiting on loads a driver called the battery man for new batterys. He connected 12 volt batterys in series on a N14. This man has sold batterys for years. he found the problem but the engine would no start. The driver knew me before i retired and come inside and got me to help. First thing we checked was the ecm fuse was blowed and now it will start. But the relays and i dont understand this but they were all froze to were they would not connect. But the battery man was shy of asking me what happened and the driver was not sharp enough to catch on hat had happen. But did say he cut him some slack on the price of batterys. I said to my self ever one need to be glad it didnt get a ecm.stuff happens i guess.
