Got the daughter back:

Rob

My daughter Nikki's electrolyte levels dropped suddenly last week. While watching her drink from a glass after her complaining about not being able to feel her feet, or right hand, she dropped a damned near full glass of soda on the kitchen table. Thinking there is something wrong here, I took her to the doctor. They discovered she was on the verge of a heart attack, (not kidding) at 26 years old. They immediately starting injecting fluids into her as the potassium level was very near zero in readings from the lab work. Potassium affects muscular activity and the heart is a muscle and was shutting down.

Five days later she is stabilized and we brought her home about an hour ago. She seems to be doing well but is very tired. Her arms are full of holes from the intraveneous drips she has been on for several days. Gonna have to keep an eye on her closely over the next few days, and teach her how to eat bananas.

Had to cancel attending Morgan's truck show today due to this but believe it or not, Mack places second in my life.

That's scary to find something like that so early in life. BUT, it was a lack of mineral that was the cause.

She will have to be more attentive to her diet for a while and get blood tests regularly to see if it was temporary system failure.

So glad to hear that she is on the upper side of it now.

That's scary, i'm glad she's OK. Everybody loves Nikki, even though nobody knows her! (especially Mike)

I remember when my wife was sick and she had to take potassium pills- biggest pills i've ever seen! Eat them 'nanners, it's much easier!

It just goes to show ya how fast something can happen to any of us. Friday about 3:00p.m. I went on the table in the OR with my r shoulder again. The funny thing is I saw this arm fly out and wondered where it came from only to realize it was mine. I could not feel a thing for the nerve block. First time I had to see a OR room. They don't fool around in there. Last thing I remember was, them telling me, breath about five deep breaths and i'm gone.

Not trying to steal a thread but, glad shes doing better, and the strength comes back as it should.

If she is breast feeding the little one it will have a huge impact on her body. I've seen women who were very athletic and active become withered looking from the kid literally sucking the life from mom. I'm glad she is OK and send her my love.

If I drink because of work, why can't I drink at work?

Hi Greg, she is not breast feeding per se. The baby, (Kinley) will not "latch on" and feed. Nikki pumps almost two liters per day and freezes the milk in a new deep freezer I purchased just for the purpose. We thaw it out and prefill bottles to give to the baby. This works very well. We were concerned about the amount she produces so plenty of vitamins and such to supplement the normal diet which will need improvement.

I'm gonna tell you this scared the shit outta me and "Momma". I actually got a call at work telling me her upper extremities and feet were refusing to move so I took off immediately. The emergency room nurses asked if she had collapsed due to such low readings of the electrolytes count. Five full days later of concentrated fluids flowing into her veins and she feels a bit better.

Thanks for the support.

Wow.......glad you were right there to help her. Lord knows what could have happened if the situation was different at the time.

Another reason to put a big ol nanner on your bowl of cereal!

My son had the latch-on problem also. I'm glad she is OK. I was ready to make a trip out and sit with you. She may need regular blood draws to check her values till they have it truely under control.

You are correct. She has weekly checkup appointments for for the next month. The baby, (Kinley) is doing well, but extremely "fussy" during the daylight hours. One of the nurses suggested possibly a neurological connection attributed to light as she is really only this way during the daytime when it is bright outside. After about 6:30pm, she is a different kiddo, (until she demands her bottle).

If you got baby experience and free time, "Momma", and Nikki would sure use the help. Mother in law left yesterday after gouging out, then then deep frying in Guinea Pig lard, the innards of a roadside possum and slathering it it some of other dog's homade sauce. I should be good to go for a few days cause I'm "eatin good in the hood".

I still handle the 11:00pm feedings and try to catch one earlier in the evening if I'm home but the shop has been keeping me kinda busy also. People keep wrecking their cars.

Thanks,

Rob

Kinley may have a sensativity to light. Has any blood work been done on the baby? I know it kills ya to see them cry during a doctor visit but it may need done.

It is a very good possibility of the sensitivity. Yes, blood work is done regularly but I'm about to hire a "deaf nanny" to deal with this crying!!
