OK I've been drivin Superliners for the past 20 years. The first was and 83 with an E9 and 6" straights. The next was and 89 with an E7 and 6" straights. Now I'm drivin a 90 with an E9 and guess what...6" straights.

I've bought a set of Pittsburgh Power mufflers to put on the 90 model. These mufflers are 10" diameter just like factory. The posts that the mufflers mount to are the square tube type and they have 4 pockets welded on which cradles the muffler and the clamp bolts to the pocket. I used my vin# and ordered the muffler clamps from Mack. These clamps only go half way around the muffler. I mean they miss meeting the mounting pockets with the bolt holes by about 5" on both sides. My question is: Am I missing some pieces or am I going to have to use a 5" long bolt on both sides of this clamp to make it work(which is going to look like Fido's a$$).

My truck is a 1990 RW613 vin# 1m2ay39y5lm006179. Any help from the Mack guru's would be greatly appreciated. It's been so long since I've been around a Superliner with mufflers I don't know if I'm missing something or not.

I just put mufflers on a superliner and I recall they were 9"??? Anyways the clamps gave aprox 1" gap either side of the square tube. However this was kinda hidden from the front view with the heat shield mounted. You could see the clamps from the rear tho.. if you. Have shields maybe just make longer clamps??

Tried to get the Mack dealer to find the size dia. of the original mufflers but he could not find it. Even with a 9" muffler the clamps he sold me are still going to be too short.

hmm..did he by chance sell you the old 8.5" muffler clamps for the older R models? sounds like your band clamps are way to small... the other thing I was thinking is if your brackets were modified when you had the 6" stacks installed. Reason I say this is when I put straights on my B model I used a mid 90s R model exhaust Hanger, I had to cut the "wings" off the square tube to clean the look up. If I recall the "wings" on the square tube are angled to help cradle the muffler? if those were modified it will give you the gaps between the clamp and square tubes.

Thanks for the help. We're gonna get em on there on way or another even if we have to engineer something.

I hope I'm gonna like these Pitt mufflers. I decided to go with them because I figured they would have the least restriction and I don't want this thing to be completely quiet. I still wanna here that E9 bark a little bit.

I got a short Pitt muffler under the truck now. next I am going to put the original pipes back on and put the quiet pitt mufflers on next with the heat shields on. I liked the noise at one time. And now I just want it quiet

Me too! I once wanted straight pipes on my trucks and drag pipes on my bikes. I'm 40 years old now and I think I'm loosing my hearing. I have 7 year old twin boys who like to go with me when they are not in school. They spend a lot of time in the sleeper and I know it's louder back there than in the cab so me (and my wife) think it's time to quiet the big truck down.
