were the tall air cleaners optional in the seventies? I know mack used the tall air cleaners in the early 70s but in the mid 70s im wondering if they were optional. because in my 1976 bulldog magazine there is u models in there with the tall air cleaners and they were built in 76. i thought mack went to the short air cleaner in like 74 because my u model is a 75 and it has the short air cleaner. thanks , vinny

Same as the U , Superdogs right, its to get cleaner air , like DM work's alot off road and at job sights, better to get the cleaner air, Same with the U's , working in the city and things like that so they want cleaner air. Your U was built for highway use so it didnt need the taller cleaner.
