looking for the easiest method to remove a 1949 EQ engine

front cross member won't move far enough foward without hitting rivets in frame

Lift the engine with an overhead crane, remove the crossmember from the truck underneath, slide engine free of the clutch assembly and housing and lift it clear. I'm assuming you have the radiator and grille shroud removed already.
