Thank you. It was getting increasingly difficult to contain enthusiasm. If randyp don't return my gorilla soon, I don't know what we're gonna do.

I've been wearing "Red Wings" over 30 years now. Wouldn't quite know what to do if they went under.

Dont have much need for a snowblower round here, wish they would invent sumpin to blow red dirt though, then pile it and smooth it and pack it. I remember as a kid, always looked forward to the new Sears and Roebuck catalog, specially the Christmas edition. I guess my first shot at porn was the Bra section. Ah, good times! randyp

Pit bull dogs now are one of the most feared breeds today but I think media hype and Michael Vick contributed greatly to that. But way back when, the Buster Brown dog was a pit bull terrior as was the Little Rascals dog and the RCA Victor phonograph mascot. How things change over a period time.

Sears closed its 900,000 sq ft distribution facility in Greensboro about 20 years ago. Maybe the same time they quit publishing the catalog. They said the mail order business was dead and never coming back. About the same time Al Gore invented the internet. Timing is everything!

Same here David about the same time period Sears closed thier Catalog store in Memphis round 95' . A Group is planning on taking the old sears building in Memphis & Make Apartments out of the building . 1.3 million sq ft. building . stilling empty since 95 . my great uncles , great aunts & grandparents all remember going down there as kids .

If 1 of the big 3 demolition contractors in Memphis ever tore it down they would have a job fer awhile.

We had a few stores on the east coast as well, W.T. Grants,Two Guys,Jamesway etc. i still have corded drill from Grants, prolly 50 years old, that works like a champ! we always looked forward to the Sears catalog too,it was a great big thing back then! last i saw a "print" catalog,it was maybe 20 pages long, with next to nothing usefull in it. The closest Sears to us growing up is the oldest one in Jersey, and is still in existance,i had a childhood friend who's father started working there in 1947,and just recently retired! they had a "kenmore" refridgerator with a "forever" warranty on it,that Sears had a shit-fit when they has to replace it for free a year or two ago!...........................P.S. bet Bullhusk remembers Two Guys!.................Mark

Mark,

They actually started 1 town over from me, in Harrison and there name was Two Guys From Harrison. There first big store was in my home town of Kearny NJ.. Vornado Fan.......Leeds Fox trucking

My deceased father in law worked for Sears for 30 years selling lawn and garden, and tools. He retired in 1986 after they kept fucking with his compensation because he made more than most district managers, but would not take one of those positions. Anyway, he used to bring home all their current catalogs that really weighted down a 3/4 ton Chevy truck almost to the wheel wells every year. We distributed these to "his" customer's homes free of charge, and he constantly had higher sales numbers than anybody in the store!! We did this for years! In those days you could "credit" your salesperson in the order and there were compensation bonuses paid to store sales personel.

Man has Sears slipped. They are no more than a less than stellar retailer anymore. You used to walk in, a knowlegable salesperson helped you with a quality product. No more. We dumped our stock in the corporation before they nosedived as it was not difficult to see the future at that time.
