I was hooked after hearing them and then having my first E9 my face hurt from smiling so much. Freightrain Posted January 9, 2012 Share Posted January 9, 2012 Back when I had my 2000 PSD dually with a straight pipe on it, it sounds like a baby V8 mack(only 440 ci instead of 998 ci). Timothy Maikshilo Posted January 9, 2012 Share Posted January 9, 2012 Tilcon replaced the V8's with 6 cylinder engines in the DM's as they got older. But there are some with the V8 still around. My 1995 3500 Chevy has straight pipes from the manifolds back then to a tee with 4.5 pipes.. Freightrain Posted January 9, 2012 Share Posted January 9, 2012 The 2000 PSD only had a muffler, no cats(yet). I built a Z bend to replace the muffler and left the stock tailpipe(3 1/2"). Phase 1 Posted January 9, 2012 Share Posted January 9, 2012 V8 diesels have a great sound. Mack, Cummins 903 or a Ford pickup, they all sound good. A Perkins V8 in a Massey Ferguson at a tractor pull sounds super tough. Joe Ditchkus Posted January 9, 2012 Share Posted January 9, 2012 There are still a few V8 Mack Tri-axles running around my area Northeastern,Pa.A friend of mine has a Superliner Mack V8 I forgot what year for sure about 1990 it just had its first rebuild. Another one is a CL? run by a coal company works 7 days a week some of the time.They do have a distinct sound. Joe D.
