I have noticed two older R model trucks here with square headlights they are twin headlights in place of the usual round one headlight..is this a particular model of truck that has this or is there a conversion kit? Looks like a r model with superliner headlights...but IDK..

definately R models..there are 4 that I have counted so far in my area 1 is a dump truck and 3 are hauling coal. I have a 1997 RD688 and know what those headlights look like..I see R models all the time with the single round bulb...but these look like the exact same hood except they have dual rectangular headlights like the superliner..so maybe the coal hauling guys upgraded to superliner headlights to make their trucks look cooler? They look great from the front...makes them not look as outdated I guess.

I also have 1988 R with 2 squares at the moment but they are terrible aftermarket and I'd like to change tham as soon as warm time comes.

No kits that i know of. The owner of the pics that I posted said that they are headlights from a T800 kenworth...but you can use freightliner or w900 or some western star setups.

I just got two complete assemblys from a junkyard for $50, I have to fabricate a new metal piece for the background, probably going to use diamond plate. Should be easy to do, only a few hours or cutting and mounting.

the RD800 had 4 squares, I know it wasnt an option here in the states for an R but lots of trucks had them, mostly in the coal hauling regions and in emergency service, or wreckers, the deal is the horrible visibility with the single incandescent round lights. I have driven an R with the stock lights and an R with the dual Squares mounted in the buckets and on a dark back road in a dump truck it makes a HUGE difference, I dont think I have heard of any being done just for looks but I have heard of lots being done for visibility. I am looking for my notes to get thte name but I talked to a KY coal hauler(the one I drove with the squares) and he said the Mack dealer there did it for him and several others in eastern KY.
