post-510-0-96185000-1330806069_thumb.jpgAlso found this picture in my archives.Proof that at least one B model was repainted with this scheme. My cousin bought this B-42 back in '92.It was a once proud local dump truck from West Allis,Wisc. Was in halfway decent shape when he bought it(except the 401 had a hole in the side of the block). He fixed it up nicely.Didn't repaint it the same.Sold it at a Ritchie Bros. auction and got a check for $1434.00 ! He was sick,to say the least!

Ritchie Bros is known for giving someone a bad case of seller's remorse - I have been many times on the buyers side (good) of a case of sellers remorse (bad)! I bought a wheeled excavator a few years ago at a Ritchie Bros sale for only $1200.00. I was hauling it home and as the pissed off seller saw me go by he flagged me down - so I stopped as I thought I had a tire hot or something. He then tried to get me to sell it back to him for the same money - NOPE!

I may have not been much of a student in high school econ, but I know that is not how this crap works!

Dont recall seeing a "western" RL/RS done up in the stars and stripes, looks good though. I like the idea of one done up "nostalgia" style, with a polished aluminum Mercury sleeper, rooftop air, single stack etc...............................Mark

I've all but decided to do it but won't use roof air as it gives me one hell of a headache, (always has). I seldom run an air conditioner but when I do, want to be comfortable. I don't have a 70-71 year model truck so I'll use a little newer. Wouldn't mind finding a 76 in good shape and would script "Spirit of 76" onto the doors or hood along with this paint scheme.

I agree! the "perriscope" always blew right in my ear, gave me headache and ear-ache! prolly get away with modern in dash HVAC,but i'd keep the rooftop "shell" just for the looks,i even like the early western series factory bumper (the one thats notched to the shape of the grille) i also like the idea of painting the stars, just looks right to my eye,as opposed to vinyl or decals................................Mark

I ordered two complete underdash units for R models, I have the gray one, the brown one has yet to show up but they are the style that was common in the mid 1990's. Neither Kysor, Marvel, or Red Dot will supply the original HVAC systems original to the trucks during their production runs citing prorpietary rights. Bullshit!! is what I say to that garbage.

My wife was against doing one up in Stars & Bars till I had shown her a photo of it being a factory applied scheme. She is now on board so at least one in the shed will sport the patriotic scheme.

That's great when the wifey even likes it.......the paint job that is!

He's has taken the good with the bad at auctions over the years himself. He once sold a trailer he bought for the price of the tires on it.The seller ended up giving him a grand to "call the deal off" after the sale was made! I guess the thing was worth an easy $10,000!
