hatcity Posted March 20, 2012 Share Posted March 20, 2012 A local man was uninjured after driving his grapple truck with the boom in the air, and getting entangled in power lines MondayThe driver remained in the cab until FPL crews arrived and disconnected power. I used to work with a man that moved to Virginia from Texas and he told me that where he used to work in Texas a guy got a truck, don't remember what type it was, into some power lines. I swung a boom into a set of 69KV lines years ago and burned holes in all the tires - some of which did not go flat for a week. Only good tires are the tag. they were not on the ground. Called MACK, they said if the truck systems are ok, just keep an eye on them. I would have thought for sure that it would have completely fried the computer in the truck. I hope a lesson was learned. Just yesterday I had a guy that couldn't understand why I wouldn't pick up a box with lightning in the area. I told him I would raise the hoist if he would hook the lightning rod, I mean cable. I work in high voltage and have seen the results of the tramatic injuries and aftermath(s) of victims, include the demise of two coworkers on the same job as I. I don't really know if anybody ever knows just how close that call was unless you have seen it first hand; I have.
