I have a rectifier mounted near my generator/alternator ( which ever) on our 1954 LS85 mack .what is the purpose of this item ?

Most likely a despiker for spurious voltages when something electrical is either disconnected from a load, or to rid the DC output line of spiking voltages.

Hello!

After checking my books, rectifier converts AC into DC. Now a classic generator gives you DC, and an alternator, as the name suggests, gives you alternating current - AC. So it's important - do you have a generator or an alternator in your truck? I would very much like to see a photo of the part we're talking about, maybe then I could tell you more. Have a nice day!
