Hi members of the Mack community!

Although our favourite brand isn't very common over here there are still some left from the golden era of the 70ies when quite a number where imported to Europe.

I found the page by surfing around trying to learn more about old Mack trucks. In the moment I'm mainly collecting automobilia all around Mack and other 70ies trucks that were used on the popular middle east run fom Europe to Iran, Iraq and Afganisthan when the political stuation was a much more friendy one. I am also collecting and building model trucks- as long as I don't have the possibility to get my hands on one of the real dogs; I have plans to buy a europe-spec'd Mack as soon as I have the space and money (doing my thesis work in automotive engineering the next months. which ties my hands in the moment).

A already did quite a lot of restoration projects on vintage cars, so doing this on a truck would be the next level. I hope to learn a lot from you more experienced Mack owners and maybe I can help someone with questions about sheetmetal restoration or european Mack models.

I hope my english is at least understandable...

... until soon

Thank you all for the welcome!

There are several differences between European and American Mack Trucks: As mentioned, the 24 volts starter (everything else was still 12 volts when new although a lot of owners changed theit trucks completely to 24 volts themselves), wheelarches for the rear axles, very often different headlights to cope with the laws of the different countries (the center of the original headlights seems to be too high for european road permission and we have asymetric beam lights here), very often long wheelbase single drive tractors and trucks and a lot of Fs and FMs (seen quite often here compared to the rest of the world) equipped with the double bunk sleeper.

A few examples:

A spanish FM712ST which is for sale at the moment

F786ST delivered to Austria and originally used to pull a lowbed trailer carrying the cable for a cablecar (GCW about  60 tons on 5 axles )- note the different head lights!

R615T delivered to Germany; in use until last year and now in the hands of a collector

Best wishes, Volker
