So with it being as hot as it is, and my Mack not having AC, it's a little too toasty in the cab of the truck for ol' Dozer. So, I've been leaving him at home, and stopping by during the day to let him out. Anyway, on Friday there was a bunny playing in the yard...old enough to hop, but not old enough to get away from Dozer. At first I thought he was just going to play with it for a bit like he did with the one he caught the other day....he wandered off with that one in his mouth and I had wondered what he did with it. I figured he just got bored with it and it hopped away after a bit.

Nope.

This time, he came right over by me and layed down. About the time he did that, the body of the bunny dropped to the ground. It was twitching around pretty good and that's when I noticed it was missing it's head. Dozer chewed it about 2 times and then swallowed. As I reached for my cell phone trying to get the camera activated, he picked up the body, chewed it about 4 or 5 times and swallowed it, too. We're talking 15-20 seconds tops he had that entire bunny devoured.

Sadly, I didn't get any pics. Maybe next time. :pat:

GOOD DOG!

BAD DOG, BAD DOG! Everybody likes bunny rabbits, right? I put a chicken wire fence around the garden to keep them out. They are good par-boiled,rolled in flour, and fried though.

Producer of poorly photo-chopped pictures since 1999.

He REALLY seems to enjoy them. Not sure why a raw bunny wouldn't be good for him, though...seems like a "natural" food source to me....eating the way nature intended him to eat. Besides, the more bunnies he eats, the less dog food I have to buy.

...and I have disliked bunnies ever since I planted a couple blueberry bushes in the back yard. Those damn things kept eating the twigs so I never got any berries. Now they can die. Once Dozer gets 'em all, maybe I can try again with the blueberry bushes.

Is there a cave painting somewhere that shows dogs cooking their food?

Are you living in the stone age,as a hunter I have seen many wabbits infected with parasites, the most common being tape worms,so if Buster eats bunny with tape worm then Buster gets tape worm,Not Good...

The boys are coming over for a big poker game. I'd better rustle up some pierogies...

Dadburnit Tom, How is Dozer even gonna be able to eat his reglar dog food with chicken wire round his head? randyp

He'll have to use Chicken Wire that's made from real chickens. At this point, Rabbit Wire would probably work fine.

I live on the border of a borough and a township-lots of houses in front of me and nothing behind me. My street is the turn around point for those rabbits who prefer a rural lifestyle, which seems to be the majority of them. I've had no problems with them getting into anything and they don't even mess with my neighbor's berries. As a matter of fact the the deer and the outdoor cats don't get into anything either, they just keep to themselves and peacefully co-exist. it's like a scene from Snow friggin' White, just lucky I guess.

Jim

I saw the neighbor's kid walking over, so I went out on the front porch to meet her. She was bringing the number for an HVAC guy the church uses over to me (since I'll probably have to get it checked out before I turn it on...but that won't happen until I'm getting ready to go move the fiance up here...). When I stepped out, I saw her mom & dad walking over so I let Dozer out and walked out into the yard to chat for a bit. Wasn't long before we heard a bunny squealing.....sure 'nuff, he got himself another'n. The little girl was a little freaked out...hiding her eyes in her dad's stomach....us adults were all laughing about it. No need to watch the nature channel...we got it right here in my front yard.

That makes at least 4 in as many days...

Hey Rowdy, did anyone get down to the bottom of all the trouble around your neck the woods? I want to say it was back in ealry spring? - Brad

Yeah. 'lectric company came out and did some "work" over on the side of town where the trouble was....and discreetly mounted a surveilance camera. So, when another fire broke out, the sheriff reviewed the tape. Turned out to be one of the kids that lived in the house that burned up....bad enough he burned his own house down, he tried burning down the trailer they moved into....along with the homes & shops of several of his relatives. He's sitting in jail awaiting trial on several felony counts....and the trouble has stopped. The family swears he wasn't responsible for ALL of the fires...but can't deny the one he's on tape starting. If he wasn't the person causing all of the trouble, though, whoever WAS responsible was smart enough to stop causing the trouble when the sheriff made the arrest.....gives the impression that they caught the right guy even if they didn't.
