Check the antenna connection on the back of the radio. The new shaker I drive daily picked up so much electrical interference on AM that you couldn't hear the programming half the time, I finally pulled out the radio, unplugged the antenna (which felt tight) plugged it back in and it was like night and day! It may have wiggled loose, preventing the antenna from getting a good ground which dissipates the stray noise interference. Easy fix and worth trying.
