Volvo is pushing its already-impressive safety record with the 2013 V40, which replaces both the V30 and the V50 in its brand new lineup. Recently, the car broke security records in a series of collision checks carried out by a European security agency. Will you be in the market to purchase or sell a new or used van? Safety is remarkable

The Euro NCAP security report came out, and Volvo’s record for secure cars is being maintained. The V40 got some of the highest marks the safety organization has given out, and it got five stars overall.

Thomas Broberg is the senior technical security adviser at Volvo. He said:

"A fantastic result. We are very proud to have one of the world's safest cars and we're taking yet another important step toward our 2020 target -- which nobody should die or be seriously injured in a Volvo."

Looking at four areas

The V40 set brand new records for pedestrian safety, at 88 percent, and adult passenger security, at 98 percent. There are only four categories studied, including those two and child protection and safety assist.

Broberg explained some of the security benefits in the V40:

"The new Volvo V40 was launched as the most intelligent and the safest car in its segment, and it is truly packed with active safety systems such as auto brake, Pedestrian Detection to shield pedestrians, Lane Keeping Aid which helps the driver stay within his or her lane, and BLIS which helps the driver detect vehicles in the offset rear 'blind spot.'"

A whiplash protection system is one of the things to help protect adult passengers. The first-ever exterior airbag for pedestrian protection is also there.

Euro NCAP gave the V40 an ideal score for its safety assist technologies for avoiding accidents, such as its City Security and Pedestrian Detection system.

Leaving kids behind

Child security was the only area where the V40 testing was not at its highest amounts. Child security is an area where Volvo should be working. It says it is working "continuously on improving the already high security level of our cars through ongoing research to the reasons behind road accidents and by gaining in-depth understanding of the results of actual collisions." The vehicle only got a 75 percent in that area.

Coming to America?

But do not run out and inquire about automobile financing in anticipation of its release. At this point, the V40 is not being made available in the States. American enthusiasts are likely eager to get their hands on the automaker's latest darling. This week's safety rating may do much to increase that clamor.
