changed mine out a few weeks ago. didnt really notice any change.. easy to do though. what handling issue do you have? there is also a transvers torque rod that goes from your rear drive axle to the frame.

the toruqe rods keep your axles from hopping under torque and the transvers torque rod keeps things aligned.

hope this helps.

sounds like camelback with rubber bushings and deep tread to me, how heavy on how many axles? are we talking 50000 on 3 axles or 80000 on 5 axles, it makes a big difference. I ran 65000 to 68000 on both tandem and tri axle dumps the tandems were always squirrely to me over 50000. What axle ratings? 16000 front, 44000 rear or 14600 front and 34000 rear?

  • 2 weeks later...

Transverse torque rod. They are out there. They also have the potential, over time, to crack the axle. The mack rod goes from the frame to a bracket that bolts around the rear cover. Just outside of the cover you will see flat areas where the bolts would get drilled and tapped for the bracket.

I have a 44K rear, no rod, and gross at 77K, I do 90 degree backs all the time gettting into pavers.

As far as squirley goes.... I put on 8 new rear tires. they were more lugged than ribbed tires. I won't do that again. For the first 3 or 4 months the rear of the truck was all over the road. I don't do much off road work. In the future I will put on more of a trailer tire than lugged.

They also make a poly block that you can put in the spring boxes that will help stiffen up ride. They aren't much more $

I would check the front springs could have broken leaves! Sometimes you cannot see the cracks till you take the Ubolts loose and then walla there it is!! Had this same issue on a 97 RD the more weight the wilder it drove and had two broken springs on the right front!!
