I saw a few set ups like that to shunt trailers around some rail freight hubs. Cuts the time used raising and lowering the landing gear to move the trailer in the lot.

believe it or not I have seen that before they were using it to dump out a garbage trailer without a live floor instead of the big dump rack they put em in now.

Some of them have wheel that extend out to the side to make them more stable when a trailer is raised in the air. Sometimes used to dump a flatbed with a side kit that has a load of apples. I have also seen them used to lift hopper bottoms to run apples in bins.

This is Mack country. On a quiet night you can hear a peterbilt rust away.

An outfit in North Jersey used to have something similiar to dump bulk plastic pellets out of container trailers into a blower which blew them into pnuematic bulk trailers.

Probably were also used for dumping wood chips and similiar materials before the live floors and big hydraulic platforms were developed.

As much as i want to agree with y'all, that fifth wheel is fixed. Raising that would just dump onto the truck.

nope, you're not missing anything, that's what happens. I found a picture of one in use.
