Fat Guys Can't Fly

Had a really shitty ending to my day yesterday.I was hauling big round bales of cornstalks from a farm to a big dairy farm.Where they had me unloading was a real bad spot, the"path" was dirt and was crowned really bad, started raining and it got pretty greasy.I was backing in slow and could see I need to pull up and get over about a foot, stopped put in in low and just as I let out on the clutch, the trailer slid to the right and almost went clear over.I got up on the load and started undoing straps to relieve the pressure so the trailer would come back down, trying to be real careful, got all the ones undone I need to and was climbing down of the bales, slipped and went over backasswards and hit the ground left shoulder first.I could tell right away I screwed something up bad.Got up and started dragging the straps out of the way,and directed the guy with the loader(who all this time sat in the dry cab of his Volvo endloader and watched) which bales to move.Got the trailer back on its wheels, straps in the side box and got the hell out of there.Got home and unhooked,by now I was really hurting, wife took me down to the ER.Nothing broke but I tore all the ligaments loose in my shoulder. Now I got my arm in a sling for the next 6 weeks.

Sorry to hear about your shoulder. Hopefully yours will heal up OK.

Most 2 yreas ago I fell and ended up with what they called a "Torn Rotator Cuff". Had to have surgery and it took a whole year before it was some where back to normal, and still do not have total use of it.

My prayers are with you.

Ooch.......that makes me hurt all over again since I spent all last year with a shreaded rotator cuff, right shoulder. Now I go to the same surgeon next week with the left shoulder to get a MRI.

So yes Mike I feel your pain. Only thing to do is take it easy.

Get better soon!

Take time to get better Mike. By the way, we fat guys can fly, we just don't land well. Paul

Dang...that's probably my biggest fear is doing something dumb & being out of work for any length of time. I pay for my fuel as I go, so I'd have revenue coming in for the next couple weeks that would get me through 5-6 months if I had to sit out....but then I'd have no money to pay for fuel when I got back to work, so I'd have to get a fuel card through the carrier and be limited to where I could fuel....and they'd have that time stamp to match up with the log book. Besides that, I gotta work. I broke my collar bone about 10 years ago and had to sit for 6 weeks...got bored & almost joined the Army. Took the ASVAB for something to do & scored in the 99th percentile...and after that the recruiter wouldn't leave me alone. Went up to St. Louis MEPS to see what they had to offer...passed the physical in A1 perfect condition & could have started basic immediately (it was still going to be 2 more weeks before the company I was working for at the time would let me back in their truck)....IF they had only had the job I wanted available & been willing to pay off my student loans. Wasn't going to happen...I could either take a job I didn't want and have the loans paid off, or take the job I wanted and keep the debt....and for the cut in pay I was already going to be taking enlisting as an E4, I couldn't afford to keep the debt. recruiter got about a dozen phone calls from his higher ups wanting to know why I didn't get signed up before I even made it back to his office.....

So yeah, me getting hurt and being put out of commission is a bad thing. First the money gets tight...but more importantly I get stir crazy if I'm stuck sitting around too much with nothing to do.

Hell, the day after I broke my collar bone, I was under my '86 Ranger hanging a new exhaust, starter, battery cables, etc...needed it to be roadworthy since I couldn't ride the bike. Still have the pain pills the doc prescribed...never hurt bad enough to take 'em.

Anyway, getting hurt sucks. Don't do anything too wild & crazy while you're trying to heal...trust me, it doesn't help the healing process any.
