Im looking at building a vintage rod-rat rod.

So the question is when was the first detriot engine with a blower produced?

Looking at bolting one on a old gas engine. (cant tell you what kind- dont want to let the cat out of the bag just yet)

The first 2-cycle style Detroit was built by the the Gray Marine Co using a GM cyl block, these engines were the first ones used in WW-2 by Uncle Sam to power there boats and Landing Crafts

All two stroke Detroit Diesels (made from late 1937-1998) had blowers. But which particular blower you get depends on what engine you're planning on putting it on. For example, if you've got a 331 cadillac motor, I would recomend a 4-71 blower but if you've got a 572 Chevy crate motor, you're gonna need an 8v71 blower. So maybe you wanna PM me so I can give you an idea of what you should be looking for

Ben

P.S. whatever blower you get, if you get it off a whole motor, I'll gladly take the rest :D

Englishtown Swap Meet always has a ton of guys with 6-71 and 8-71 blowers floating around for sale. Fairly cheap too since most you would want to rebuild, then get the manifold for whatever engine your doing then the flange for the carburetion. I've seen them from $250-500 up to $1,000 for the basic blower case without the aforementioned accessories.

I may or may not happen to have an 8V71 and 8V92 blower awaiting a future project! MAY OR MAY NOT!

You gotta watch though cuz if the blower is from an 8V92T then it's a bypass blower and it won't make as much boost as you would expect.
