I think they got rid of all these and replaced them with Granite's, although I have seen a few of these stillrunning around with a different name on the door. Somebody must have bought a couple. It was then converted to a 6-wheeler by somebody in Iowa.Somewhere along the line the 375 V-8 gave out and a 300 was installed. He bought it from Twin Bridges Truck City in Bettendorf,Ia. in like '84 and spent a good part of a year re skinning the cab,repainting it, and detailing it out. He ran this truck until the late '90's,when he caught the Red Oval flu! One of many I remember watching go by from the passenger seat in Dads truck.I saw the other post about Bob Ecksteins truck ( http://www.bigmacktrucks.com/index.php?/topic/18824-some-pics-of-the-rs/page-7 ) and figured I could take a picture of a picture from my "Mack Trucks book by Ron Adams" and post it. Its a shame how that truckended up after how well Mr Eckstein took care of it. From the picture of the bunk Al posted to this picture it looks like the truckgot a bigger bunk at some point in its life. The 1st one was taken early spring of 2000.Not too long before I parked it and went to work for Meyer Material Co.,as an ADT driver. This pic shows the 60 gallon,20" diameter alum. fuel tank I had built for me by Alum-I-Tank in Harvard,Ill. This style tank was available when I bought the truck,but the option price had jumped to like $600.00 by time the truck was ordered,so I just went for the larger diameter 75 gal. alum. tank. I also had started running 425 steer tires. Overated for the weight I was carrying (by 2,000lbs),but they wore like iron,and I never lost one. Also between the tires and the smaller diameter tank,I had all kinds of ground clearance now,and didn't have to worry about dragging my front axle through the mud as bad.The 2nd picture is me in a younger man's clothes,Winter of '90-'91. Truck was about 6 mos. old and was everything a guy could ask for in a reliable,tough,puttin' food on the table,12 month a year all-out work truck! My accountant would shake his head when I would show him my repair bills for the year.He would say,"that's all?" I bought a new box (went to Galion vs. the Heil),in '97 because of the repair needed was short of buying a new one. My 1985 and 86 are still putting bread on the table. As luck would have it, your pic has answered a problem I've been scratching my head over.I have been looking at a chrome bumper for my 86 RD688 . The dimensions are all right, but it has the 2 bolts on each side,and no holes for tow hooks, the same as yours! My 86 and 88 both have 3 bolts on each side, around the hole for the tow hook. I didn't know Al at the time but saw him and i think the gmc in the picture as well. You guys must have passed my neighborhood 3 times a week. All running with each other. Then for a while I saw a deep red sterling running around with some of those same trucks.
