There's still quite a few left running around here, but sadly none are near as photogenic as the ones y'all have been posting. I don't know what it is, but trucks don't seem to get taken care of down here in the South near as well as you guys in the Midwest and North do, with a few exceptions, of course. It looks like the drivers and the owners of the trucks you have pics of truly took pride in what they did for a living. I've been driving and running equipment for a living for about ten years now, and I've seen a huge difference in the average truck driver's attitude and performance in that short period of time. 9 out of 10 drivers I know are just there for a paycheck. They don't care what they tear up, if the truck is clean or in good condition. Not to be a downer, but it really saddens me to think what the next generation is going to be like. I'm afraid all of us Mack guys are a dying breed. At least we've got Vinny to carry the torch! LOLGlad you like them as much as I do,Jake! Well said Al,i surely agree. i guess i'm one of the lucky ones,as i actually WANTED to be a driver like my Dad and Grandad were. And fortunate enough to be shown the "old school" ways of trucking,keep your truck up & clean,don't look like a bum,take some pride in both your equipment AND yourself,care about the job you do! respect your equipment! i take some degree of "guff" when i talk trucks with the newer drivers,"why waste the time and effort.it's just a truck" my answer is usually "No,its not just a truck,its my home,office & bedroom,it pays my bills,keeps a roof over my families head,is putting my wife through college,and many other things" and besides, thats MY name on the door! and no,i did'nt want a pete or KW, but settled for a Mack they just don't get it!...............................Mark 3 Quote Mack Truck literate. It's a nice ride, an '05 Vision flat top. I had been running it hauling grain for a couple of weeks off and on. It's the newest, nicest truck I've ever driven, and it's a MACK! I had a dirt job come up so he had another guy come in to drive it. He said, "Oh, it's a Mack? Well, I was really hoping for a nice truck but I guess it'll have to do." He drove it for an hour, got it loaded, brought it back, and said he just can't drive anything but a Pete or a KW and it has to be at least a 2010 model. He just can't stand driving junk. The show took place on the road and there was a sign on the side of the road that said Engine brake use prohibited . I haven't seen that here in NYC . Is that a common thing out west? It seems that about 10-15 years ago a few local farmers had bought some older Cummins powered (Jake equipped)road trucks,and put some younger farm kids in as drivers.As soon as they got these old "road whores",the first thing they would do was pull the mufflers off & put straight pipes on 'em (I'm not opposed to this,when driven right).Then they would run 'em like their Chevy,Dodge ,or Ford pickups on a Saturday night,and in the small quiet towns while going 35mph,felt the need to let everybody know they were here,by hitting their Jakes.Not everybody needed to know,and now we have signs in a bunch of towns around here.I've seen signs that read "NO ENGINE BRAKING" or "USE OF COMPRESSION BRAKES PROHIBITED".I think the most reasonable sign I've seen is "ENGINE BRAKING IN EMERGENCY ONLY". I think thats fair,as a former user of the Jake Brake (both of my MACKs had 'em).
