Convert to electric windows?

I would love to have power windows on my 96 cl,has anyone done a conversion,also I remember years back someone maybe Mack made an external type electric window motor but I haven't seen one lately,any ideas or should I just keep cranking..

I remember back in the day my Dads Transtar had an electric one on the passenger side that screwed to the door over the regulator shaft, looked like an armrest.

I remember those universal kits, yup mounted right over door panel, looked like an arm rest of sorts. Been years, I'm thinking that JC Whitney sold them?

I would suspect you could go behind the door panel? It would be a custom install for sure might look into that for my r model.

I found a u-tube vid on the install for the type that Chevy posted and they do go behind the door panel,just gotta make sure it's a heavy duty motor made for trucks and rv's,still looking into it..

I would be intrested to see how powerfull it is. the window felt can be tight and is a PITA to roll up by hand on some doors.,,

How do you think that would work out on the driver side door,would it hit your leg,should be ok for pass side.

I found a u-tube vid on the install for the type that Chevy posted and they do go behind the door panel,just gotta make sure it's a heavy duty motor made for trucks and rv's,still looking into it..

They mount behind the door panel. The motors are heavy duty and use a worm drive to turn the window crank. The windows on my 88 had new channels and weather seals installed at the same time. I followed the install suggestions and sprayed the channels with Silicon and lubed the regulator with silicon based grease. Spring and Fall I spray the window channels with silicon. No problems even in the biter cold a few years ago.

It seemed to be similar to most of the universal ones available when I was looking for it, even J.C. Whitney sold the same set up only about $50.00 more. I did want the extermal one that mounted direct to the crank but couldn't find any. Paul

The ones I remember were black boxes about 3' by 4" and bolted to the door panel, think they went right over the window crank rod that sticks out of the panel. In a R model your knee would hit it all the time if in the passenger seat. Forget about using it on the drivers door!. Thats how I remember them. CH cab might have more room but they are a ugly add on if you have a nice interior...
