Interesting vid but I get upset when I see "hot dogs" with no respect for safety. He appears to have no ear plugs (maybe there is nothing between his ears), shirt tail out walking around moving belts, and beard flapping in the breeze.

To me it does need some explanation, where is the leaking oil? why is there no smoke coming from under the valve covers? some sort of video trickery i think...............................................Mark

Mack Truck literate. Computer illiterate.

I noticed Blower Drive Service on the polished superchargers, not the stock blowers found on your typical 24V/71 like you'd find in an Astro 95 or something.

I saw a 16 cylinder Detroit in a huge loader once. Never heard it running though. It didn't leak a drop of oil either. ( it leaked many drops of oil.)

Big Mike needs to put down the crack pipe. There ain't no way that mess could put down those kind of numbers. That is a stock motor with expensive crap piled on it. See any smoke? Me neither, no load on it at all, not even a puff. Box stock. Good idea, poor execution.

there was some 12 92 Ts put in Pacific trucks here on coast at the time we put put Cat 3412T s in three Pacifics. 1292s couldn't keep crank in them so replaced and drowned holding down a grapple yarder in 3 or 400 feet of water.I would like to know what injectors were in that engine.I think the power rate is way out of line for a green leaker

Yea, like seriously? I read about this motor from one of the guys that helped build it. That is a BONE STOCK 24V71N with a bunch of crap all over it. Did anybody notice that when he closed all the flaps on the blowers that it didn't even idle down? That's because that motor has the 4 stock blowers on it that do the job that they were designed to do and all that other crap is just for decoration. And how bout the fact the they "dyno'd it" without actually having a dyno. I like how he goes over "reads" the power numbers from an imaginary screen. In case anybody was wondering, a 20V149TTA (which is the biggest, most powerful Detroit Diesel ever made) makes about 2700 horsepower. And that motor is twice the size and actually has turbos and afetrcoolers to make power. The Big Mike 2 motor is just a regular old 24V71N with a whole bunch of shiney expensive garbage piled all over it and an owner that has a chemical inbalance in his brain.

The V12-92 was just two V6-92's bolted together with 4 cyl. heads, the cranks would break between th blocks, the best think to do would be to put a V12-71 with turbo's an aftercoolers. The 12-71's have a one piece block and two 6-71, heads a better motor

per side

Thanks for clearing that up. I've been told that the 12V-71 was two 6V's bolted together, block and all. I'm no engineer or mechanic for that matter, but that just didn't sound like it would stay together.

So, the !2V-71 has one inline-6 head and not two V6 heads per side?

Jim

12v71 in a W900 A model, theres a pete down the road from my house with one in it they were used every now and again in trucks and yes the 12v71 had a 6-71 head on each side and is a one piece crank and block, much better design than the 12v92, the 92 was kindof an afterthought the 71 was actually designed to be used.

actually they did dyno it, its hooked to a load cell you can see the shaft running to it in the back of the engine if you look, and the dyno intercooler is above the rear of the engine for engines that need it, the flaps on the blowers will close without shutting the engine down they have idle air valves built in, and i dont know if the engine made that power or not but it is on a dyno and it was run and you dont have to have black smoke to make power, if you have an engine tuned up poroperly and have enough air to lean out the air/fuel ratio you can make more power without smoke but you will get it hot fast. just my two cents (ive been around a dyno or two)

The "buzzin' dozen" was pretty much king of the road in it's day- fuel prices weren't much of an issue then.

Reminds me of a story- a true one. A fellow I know used to drive an F- model Mack with a V12 Detroit in it. He stopped at the Southern Belle truck stop on 522 in Berkley Springs one night. He was talking to some other drivers in the truckstop, and when they left one of the other drivers asked him what he was driving.

He said "that Mack". He had a load of green lumber on, so one of the other guys said "you mind letting us leave first?" They were driving "large cars, and didn't want to be held up going through Berkley Springs.

So he said "fine, go ahead". He followed them through Berkley Springs, and up the rest of the 2 lane up to Hancock, where you get on I-70. When they started pulling Town Hill Mountain, before you get to Breezewood, he just hit the left lane and passed them all.

Town Hill is a bear going north (west) or south (east)!

I used to run 522 and 70 to Breezewood all the time, then run the turnpike west. Then the turnpike got so expensive we started running up 79 to get to the Pittsburgh area. It used to cost $21 to run from Breezewood to Ohio, I have no idea what it costs now. Haven't been on the Pa. pike for years.

Yep. I77/I-81 south/north and I-77/I-81 north/south in VA is a much easier drive regardless of whether your travelling northeast or southwest.

$75.50 to drive on a road after fuel tax, highway use tax, wheel tax, hell no!
