Need some input here. Truck has been idling alittle rough for a while. High idle helps alittle. Yesterday coming across Ohio started getting a pretty good vibration under power. ( Driveline is New from the trans back) Got parked and went to idle up and the truck just started shaking. and sounded like it had a miss but no smoke like an injector. Opened the hood and nosed around had Ann shut the truck off and restart it after idling up it would shake. looked to the front and when she shut it down the Damper on the front moved around, in and out 1 time. Started it back up and did it again. I cannot move the damper by hand. It was to cold not to idle so ran the truck all night. Left this morning and got to Hagerstown from Hancock and other then the Vibration under power no power loss, Smoke, or anything else. Any ideas other then a damper going out. Tried calling Antrim diesel today as there hours showed today but no awnser and tried calling Alban Cat. no awnser either. Gonna try both monday and hope for the best. I need to be in Baltimore Wednesday to unload as this machine already has an extention to deliver. Should of been today but the unions reached a 30 day extention and pricks decided since they got that not going to work on Saturday like they where supposed to. thats another story.

It might be many things, but one thing is read the ecm for codes .But sounds like a miss so some one will have to do some testing on it and you cant listen to some ones ideal of whats wrong untill they test like run a injector cutout test.

It could be a lot of things. You said the harmonic balancer moved get a 15/16 socket and a 1/2 inch breaker bar get on the drivers side and see if you can tighten it any. Some say to replace at 500,000 but they can run over a million. Could be a fuel filter, a timing sensor, a bad injector.

This is Mack country. On a quiet night you can hear a peterbilt rust away.

If you saw the damper move start there, if you can't move it by hand and the bolts are tight, watch it at start up and shut down, if it has slipped out of line it may wobble just slightly but idle rpm may be too fast to see it. If that's not it try a pry bar behind it to see if you can move it forward or back, also check your clutch if you don't notice a miss or lack of power but you have a vibration and that's where I would start, and a new ujoint may always be bad,or carrier bearing its happened before.
