We have a '91 Superliner, driven by a "nubee" 22 year old TEAMSTER. Kid is making every bit of $10-$15 more an hour than any non-union driver in this state. Right around $100K a year at 55 hours a week. Plus he has a well funded pension for when he retires and FULL medical coverage for himself and family, all paid by our employer, no employee contribution like most places these days. Oh, and he can also read.

I have a hard time figuring out why people consider us to be the bad guys because we make a real wage and have company paid medical and retirement. It's how it should be, for every American who goes out and breaks his or her back for their employer everyday.

Ya know I just realized you said the driver made $100k a year, that is about double what the highest paid driver I know makes. That just shows the difference in cost of living from the NY area to rural TN, I bought a 2090sq ft house on 23 acres for $230k, a co worker from NY sold his 3800sq ft house on 3 acres for over $750k. actually if you ran a dump truck hard here and paid the driver $100k you couldn't pay for your fuel and payment on a new truck.

. Well said John , I couldn't make ends meet here in NY making $25.00 an hour with no benefits.. There are some companies that are not union that pay very well with some benefits but are very hard to find let alone get a job with them. Hell even with what I get from the union it's still not easy. On the same hand I don't look down on non union drivers or begrudge them for making a living. At the end of the day we are all just trying to make an honest days pay union or nonunion.
