To best i can remember : Econodyne was basically the "fuel pincher" or fuel effcient version of the Mack motors

Maybe FJH , superdog , HK or Barry could chime in & know something i dont ;)

I belive the econodynes had higher HP outputs but lower TQ rateings. they needed more gears to pull you as the power band was up top and not as wide as the maxidynes. I think they came in low rpm models and standard 2100 versions and they claim that they were better on fuel.?

heres a link over towards Hanks truck pictures where they talk bout the Mack motors look under mike malone he talks bout the econodyne & maxidyne , thermodyne motors & i didnt realize they had a board there :blink:

& now that trent refreshes the memory i belive thats right i belive the TQ Ratings were Lower & hp was higher

but i do remember the dealer telling us when we bought a 89 R Model & they came out the econodyne was supposed to be better on fuel than the Maxidyne <_<
