Back in the early 70's my dad had a fleet of trucks in Jacksonville Florida; one of the big carriers in that area was Ploof Transfer. Dad tried out some F models that Ploof ordered new as sleepers but when they arrived they were day cabs. Believe it or not, Mack put Mercury sleepers on them to try to please Ploof but they didn't like them so Mack was trying to sell them to us. I don't have any photos; has anyone seen a photo of a beast like that?

Boy,what a screw up on somebody's part, huh? That would be interesting to see, for sure! It was a common practice, back when cabovers didn't tilt. I guess I have seen a few pictures of some brand X C.O.E.'s with add-on bunks, but no F's.

IF YOU BOUGHT IT, A TRUCK BROUGHT IT..AND WHEN YOU'RE DONE WITH IT, A TRUCK WILL HAUL IT AWAY!!! Big John Trimble,WRVA

I remember seeing those trucks, and actually looked at one on the used truck lot at the White dealer in Kernersville,NC in '74 or '75.

If I remember correctly they weren't Mack powered.

Were they 903's

There were several similarly equipped F Models that used to run out of Chicago in the early 70's leased to Eck Miller or maybe it was Ace Doran .

I always assumed they were the result of some accountants being allowed to spec' trucks.
