Ironically when I was on my way to Macungie I saw a brand new Scania dump truck being transported on a lowboy heading East across the PA turnpike near Mt. Joy, PA. I was driving so I couldn't get a picture but it was definitely a brand new single axle Scania. It had maybe a 12 or 13 foot dump body on it and had super single tires on all four wheels. And it had very large Allison Transmission decals across the side of the dump box. It looked like a promotional vehicle for Allison.

F7 Volvo..simply the worst truck I ever had the misfortune to see never mind drive.it was gutless and rode like a bucking bronto.I hated that truck.I turned down a job with an all Volvo fleet because of that heap of scrap...and it was brand new.

Then you would say a Mack MS300T Mid-Liner tractor was gutless too. But particularly with the splitter-type 10-speed transmission, I thought it was superb in the correct applications.

I dont know much about the Mack Midliner tractor as they were not sold over here.I looked it up and it looks just like an F7 but no info on engine specs. The application we used the F7 for should have been well within its specs as we grossed about 40,000 lbs max.The truck was brand new 230hp 16 speed gearbox but wouldnt pull the skin off a rice pudding. It rode so bad the cab shook its self to bits and broke springs to beat the band. The dash came apart and the air seat also fell apart.Pure junk. After 2 years it looked 10 years old.It was main dealer maintained. It put me off Volvo for life.I feel ill just talking about it🥶.

The F6 and F7 performed well in the US market, as did the N10.

Maybe I got a bad one but because of it I would never consider Volvo to be a "great" truck. The F7 was replaced with a Scania 82m,210hp 10 speed which was a good truck.I put 326,000 miles on it before the job ended.Next job was hauling shale rock from a pit to a Cement factory.Truck availability was the biggest factor as any interuption to the flow of material caused big problems.when I started we had 3 Hino 4 axle dump trucks 1 Iveco 1Volvo FL10 and 1 Scania 112H tractors pulling 3 axle dump trailers all replaced on a 5 year life span.the availability factor percentage was set at 92%.The actual factors were Volvo 78% Scania 84% Iveco 90% Hino 97%.By the time I finnished the fleet was all Hino. The Hino was/is the most under rated truck Iv ever driven. They just worked and worked and worked with little downtime. The F700 had one of the most comfortable cabs I worked in.While I like Scanias I dont understand why guys adore them so much. They are a good truck but there are much better trucks out there. If I were asked to pick a Europian truck now It would be the MAN TGA420.smooth powerful comfortable  ultra reliable and great MPG.A friend got one after years in Scanias and said that he thought Scanias were the best untill he got the MAN.Now he says Scania drivers dont know what they are missing.......

Fedex bought a bunch of them a few years back. They were nothing but junk. They were smooth and quiet. Everything works real good heater air condition stereo but they were the ugliest thing I’ve ever seen and I was always something wrong with them one I had it was down in deadline Like 12 times and nine months. I couldn’t wait to get out of that thing the company wound  up getting rid of all of them in the next go around where peterbilts… bob

Ever since the company started in 1966 they have always been open to new ideas used to be Viking freight lines before Federal Express bought them I guess they thought they’d give these things a shot. Most of us didn’t like them some guys did.
