I recently acquired a 1980 Mack CF Fire-Truck, looks like the batteries are dead. There is are (4) 6-Volt, 7D-VHD 940 CCA Batteries. I notice that on top the battery was connected to the Pos and Neg Poles and on the bottom the "Positive was connected to the Negative" with a short jumper cable, is this normal? Also, it looks like Interstate discontinued the 7D batteries - was wondering if anyone had any sugestions?

Picture of batteries is attached. Thanks for the help!

Yes. That is what I usually do. I have (4) 12s in my CF right now. I don't know if it has a 24 volt starter on it though. I usually start my firetrucks on both batteries. My Hahn will start with one good 12 volt battery though. That is if you are really cheap.
