im looking for a larger truck and this local tri axle dump showed up . 250k 14000 hrs, looks clean but ive never owned a mack before, i currently run a smaller truck ( ten wheeler with small c7 and eaton 8ll) any advise or things to look for? is this combo a good set up? the electronic motors ive heard to stay away from, thanks in advance

I run a 96 RD 688S tri axle everyday. Manual E7 350, 8LL, 44k camelback, 18k front, 15.5' Ox Body bed, with 550,000 miles, and 30,000 hours. I've had it going on three years, and it's been a good truck.

95 is a mechanical. I believe they started switching to electronics 97/98

There was the choice from 94-98 of either mechanical or electronic. We have a '01 350, 8LL with an electronic and it ain't that bad, just had problems with multiple turbos. The older electronics supposedly had problems with the wire that went into the injection pump? but mechanical would be the way to go
