They put in a 1693 Cat Engine (were used in Cat loaders) 5x4 tranny(had a 13 speed I believe), almost new rails, etc. Every hose was changed, truck was re-wired. I always liked that style A-Car,used to see one as a boy around South Jersey,a tractor with a Mercury sleeper on it,not a show-piece mind you,but a real sharp truck. I saw it sitting still once and had a closer look,it was Cummins powered,two sticks,did'nt know any better back then,but it was on a Reyco suspension! pretty rare back then to see what we considered a "West Coast" in Jersey,much less a conventional!....................................Mark Quote Mack Truck literate. Always liked this style too.They took it out of service a couple of years ago and have updated to a sharp GMC General w/bunk & a Volvo/White/GMC integral sleeper. The cab is a little perforated.I would think there would be one out west somewhere.This one has a Cummins (not sure if 335 or 290),13 speed. Liked the '80's replacement for this model also,the AT 64. It had a Cummins 335 4X4 Spicer trans. talk about rare! well they rolled it an it was cut up! Popular Post vision386 Posted August 20, 2014 Popular Post Share Posted August 20, 2014 I'm right there with you on the AT-64 Al,i liked those too,always thought they were sharp! a local shyster in South Jersey(the same crook I drove the 3408-KW for) bought a matched pair,they were some of the last trucks ever built with 5X4 trans. in them,they were 3406 B-Model Cats 4 and a quarter I think? tri-tone blue with red frames,i was told by one of the drivers,they would do every bit of 100 mph,grossing 78,000! how true that is I don't know! we all know truck drivers never lie!
