hicrop10 Posted June 10, 2013 Share Posted June 10, 2013 The teeth on our bucket were much larger the the D9 ripper teeth.It would take over an hour to change them.The only problem we had with the 5110 was being able to keep enough trucks under it. bullhusk Posted June 11, 2013 Share Posted June 11, 2013 Under the Autocar part of the site there's a Mack trailer A-Car, I'm not sure of the # but I think it was a 1466 Koehring with 2- V12-71 Detroit's?? I know it was one big monster machine (EE Cruz) and the driver of that Autocar brought that machine into the job site like it was 580 Case! He was a tall guy with coveralls on and was one hell of a driver! rsb502 Posted June 12, 2013 Share Posted June 12, 2013 Theres a company in Nashville TN, Hunter Marine that has 2 5110 Cat's they have long sticks and clam shell buckets for unloading barges on the river, supposedly when they got the first one back in about 2002 or 2003 it had the largest roatating clam shell bucket ever built. We hauled sand out of there all day and that thing would unload 2 to 3 river barges in no time even with probably 40-50 trucks hauling for 12-14 hours it would build the pile up as we were trying to haul it out. I remember them bringing that first one in one truck load at a time and Cat had two mechanics there for a week putting it together, they were using old Bucyrus Erie draglines up until they got them, they actually still had one a couple years ago just sitting there for when they got too busy for the two 5110's. I was next in line. When the loader came over it would pick it up another foot and a half off the trailer. The forklift at theyard had the same problem. It could only lift it so high and then another fork had to come over to assist to get it highenough to set on the trailer. If you want to help it you have to push down on one pedal with the heel of your boot and kick the steer lever over with your toe while you pick up and swing. bulldog man Posted June 16, 2013 Share Posted June 16, 2013 Yup the ole stick steer duce 15 & duce quarter Kitty Trackhoes . pop had a 215 & his buddy had a 225 w/ the 3208 in it both stick steer . those were the 1st 2 excavators I learned to operate when I was bout 10 or 11 yrs old . what was a challenge for me learning how to get used to john deere control pattern . 1st time I tried was a 2nd buddy of pops (who he sub contracted for a lot) pc 300 Komatsu set up w/ the pattern changed around opposite of the standard (or as pop & his buddy called it John Deere Controls). I almost swung a 54" bucket into the side of A 16' bed on my pops 79' DK Autocar . I was bout 15 or 16 yrs old @ the time . Had it loaded facing forward. Usually the other way around, but I'm sure there was a reason for it. More axles on back and need all the weight back there to axle out right on the drives. I have a few friends that do heavy haul in the lower 48 and every state theygo in has a different set of rules for oversize. One state says its fine the next one wants you to have 20 axles and two escorts.Some of these states are just ridiculous with their rules.
