farmer52 Posted May 9, 2013 Author Share Posted May 9, 2013 Hey KenJust a little reminder when you unhook, assuming your MH is air ride, drop the air out of the suspension (if you want to keep your rear crossmember straight). When you crank the landing gear down on the trailer, keep it about an inch off the ground, and just before you pull out, dump the air on the rear suspension, and pull out real easy.Dave,MH is spring rear suspension.Trailer is in Altoona already! farmer52 Posted May 12, 2013 Author Share Posted May 12, 2013 This morning I connected the batteries in the MH and it started after about 2 revolutions. Built up air pressure, moved it back and forth a few times, shutdown, and drained tanks. Whew....alot of work in one day for an old fart.Then after lunch I drove by the ODFL terminal. There sitting all alone was the trailer. Looks just as good as it does in the AZ pictures.Another fifth wheel question...is there any lubrication needed on the locking mechanism or pivot? I scraped some of the hard old grease out of the grooves and will apply a coating of fresh grease before I leave.Going Tuesday morning to pickup the trailer...pics to follow. I pumped about 10 shots of grease in each one. Hopefully that is enough.Second - the new toy is home! Picked it up at ODFL around 10a. Backed up to the trailer, correct height, backed under it slowly, and there was the sound of the latch locking. Pulled forward and it was tight (best kind). Got out and checked the latch from behind, and it was good. The Dispatcher at ODFL confirmed the hookup. Connected the air lines and electric cable and cranked up the landing gear. Checked the lights and trailer brake. Life is good!PA Trooper showed up and verified the VIN. I will get permanent OH license when I get to Canton this weekend.Nothing like the first time! Pulled it to the farm and backed it in front of the barn. Not sure that is where I will keep it but at least it is home. Driving with the trailer is definitely different than bobtail. I took a chunk out of my U model tire and a curb before...Papa has a culvert and I got a little to close to the edge where the curb was..... That was awhile ago. The drama was killing me"Spud Express"I don't want to gloat but I "nailed" it on the first try...beginners luck? Thanks to all the BMT members for their excellent instructions. Watching porn videos on the interweb helped too. It did however take three (3) tries to back it 90 degrees from the narrow side road into the barnyard (there is about 15' between a stump and a block building. I think the stump is going to be history soon.Ken - duh what do I do?Dispatcher - I think you back it up until it stops. Then pull forward about 3 feet and if the trailer does not come unhooked you are good to go. Don't worry about the landing gear and tire skid marks.
