Hello,

I need advice on removing the wheel seal from B model front hubs. They are currently off of the truck but I have no idea how to remove and replace the seal without potentially damaging the inner bearing and race. Help please?

I'm trying to remember, but I think I just used a big screwdriver and pried it out. Nothing much to hurt that way. Or maybe a wood stick or brass punch and stick through the front hole and smack on inner race. That should force the seal out without hurting anything.

On cars and light trucks, I usually leave just the spindle nut on and drag the hub over it sharply and that pops the seal off(along with the bearings leaving them undamaged). The big hubs on this might be kinda tough to do that way.

1/2" brass punch and a 3lb hammer works great thru the front hole sit the punch on the inner race and knock the bearing out the bottom pushing the bearing with it. Just about 19years of changing wheel seals there oh and snap, cornwell and others make a race punch that works great too but I like using brass so I don't scar the bearing.

Thank you all for the advice. I got both of them out yesterday and will start hunting for replacement seals next week. To be honest I don't believe I have ever seen a brass punch before - I will have to go looking for one or machine one for future use.

My be model did not have brakes on the front axle when I bought it. I found all the parts I need to install the brakes on the axle and I am now in the process of getting everything cleaned up and installed.

I buy them from snap on and proto industrial tools, I make larger ones for work by buying a 36" piece of brass round bar stock from fastenal and cutting it in half I have them from .25"x6" up to 1.5"x18". I use em a lot at work for driving pins and bushings in rr machines, the big ones have enough weight I can use them as a dead blow in tight areas too.

No i've seen oil seep from the inner wheel seal. Gets all over the tire if you drive it. That is what had me wondering if you were changing the wheel seal cause of leakage.

1994 R series front hub has a little red cap in the center. It fell off and is leaking oil. I need a part number to get a replacement so I can use it this weekend. either that or MacGyver to jimmy-rigg it

Stop by any truck stop they should have them next to the candy racks or at least that is where I have seen them and bought them, they are pretty common.

Should be a number on the hub,take it to Mack or truck parts store,get some extras..

The hub oil cap is pretty standard only one or two variations on the fill hole, definitely put a plug in it to keep oil and dirt out you can get a whole new cap with the plug for not much or a pack of a couple of the plugs for a couple bucks.
