There is a DOT exemption for vehicles used for personal/private/not-for-hire use - FMCSA 390.3(f)(3).

Does anyone know if I need to have a FMCSA inspection on the trailer?

How much (ball park cost) does an inspection cost?

Ken,

If it were me, I would take it to a truck/trailer garage and have it inspected and have the peace of mind knowing that everything is working properly and is safe. In the Lawsuit Happy Society we live in today, it does not hurt to be over cautious.

I believe cost should be around $50

Thanks everyone for your comments. Yesterday I received an envelope with additional paperwork from the dealer. A new inspection sticker was included. At least I do not have to concern myself until April 2014.
