This guy knows his Mack as well as most other truck mfg history. Some think he is just putting the name down but I think he just speaks the truth....He surely has the pics and history lessons for some oddball and cool truck history.

How about it....what's your story? How is it that you know and have pictures of our great trucking history?

There was discussion about this among a couple of the guys at Macungie. Some think he is employed by Volvo. I personally don't care either way. I enjoy the history and pictures. But inquiring minds want to know I guess.

Thank you. I'd rather not say too much. I worked many years for Mack. While at Mack, I never enjoyed life more.

I can’t adequately express my heartfelt feelings for Mack Trucks. I can tell you that I have never known a finer high-caliber group of people. Simply put, there was no better company to work for than Mack Trucks. No other truckmaker had a family of employees from coast-to-coast and around the world with so much passion, dedication and pride. These qualities, I feel, were largely responsible for Mack’s successes.

In the days of Mack Trucks, particularly under Zenon Hansen, you knew in your heart that you were part of something really special. Long after Mr. Hansen retired, the Mack spirit he created lived on at Mack World Headquarters, the plants, PDCs (parts distribution centers), Mack’s superb factory-owned branches* and the privately-owned Mack distributors. No matter where you were, the Mack family spirit was present.

It was Mack pride and earned respect (never any arrogance) that allowed Mack to rise above the rest. Life at the other truckmakers was just a job. But at Mack Trucks, our work was an indescribably satisfying way of life.

So it is extremely sad for any Mack veteran, like myself, to witness a foreign truckmaker purchase America’s truck industry icon and reduce it to a mere shell of its former self.

If there was to be one remaining U.S.-owned truckmaker, it arguably should be Mack Trucks. With due respect to America's other truckmakers, no other U.S. truckmaker has contributed so much to America as Mack – “The Greatest Name in Trucks”.

(Paccar executives have privately expressed sadness over what's become of Mack. That speaks volumes for the respect they had for the former Mack Trucks)

*The factory-owned branches of Mack Trucks deserve special mention. From Atlanta to Richmond to Dallas, from Denver to Salt Lake City to Seattle, from Chicago (both the Wentworth Ave. and O'Hare branches) to Buffalo to Queens, no truckmaker in the history of the United States ever had a finer and more capable sales and after-sales support network than Mack Trucks. The Mack factory branches, I feel, set the benchmark for the entire industry. I can't say enough good things about the dedicated Mack men and women who made it possible. Job well done.

From someone that does not know you outside of this fourm...you really know how to produce some interesting info and back up with photos......you shrug off the bs pretty good too....lol......I really think you could write a book or be some sort of historian on Mack trucks ...thanks for what you have and continue to share with us...

My knowledge is from my career in the trucking industry.

Being involved in the global truck industry, I make note of any and all developments. The world is a much smaller place today.

I'm envious of you for having been an employee of Mack during what I consider to be it's heyday. I'm sure the passion you have for Mack was typical of most of it's employees of the time. Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge and experiences.

The most reason for me being here is getting knowledge over the truck product we all here too love.

It's a great chance for me as a person who lives far away and who lived many years in the past behind the shield of the Cold war to be involved in the living of so nice community of Mack people. This way I really happy while here and want to say special thanks personally to you and to everybody else who share interesting and useful information over the part of the trucking world we all so used to enjoy.

kscarbel - your posts about truckmaking history are something special on these forums, right since you started posting. I also wanted to thank you for the interesting information you're posting. I once asked you for help on the topic of the Superliner, I sure wished you would help me on this one...

As for the Mack company, it always hurts my heart to see waste - and gutting Mack wasted many opportunities - for people to have good jobs, for truckers to have good machines to work with and so on. I read many times your writing about how it's a shame and pity - but what would be interesting is to hear your opinnion on what was the reason for what happened. Somebody sold, somebody bought and then decided to take it all apart - I would like to ask your opinion as to why? The economic theory says people are rational. By that nobody would kill a hen laying golden eggs. I look forward tou your view on that.

I agree with what the others have already stated,my interest in Mack Trucks and the companies history has spanned decades! No other truck manufacturer can boast the loyal following Mack has enjoyed almost since its inception. And we as both enthusiasts and driver/owners are truly fortunate to have so many knowledgeable people such as yourself at our disposal. I personally enjoy reading all the articles and information you have posted,and hope will continue to do so. And I also agree it is a real shame to see control of an American Icon in foreign hands,be it Volvo or anyone else for that matter. I feel we here on BMT are helping keep the real Mack tradition alive,if only in spirit. we all still believe Mack is,was,and always will be "The" truck,be it modern,working or classic models. The words "Built Like A Mack Truck" still ring true with us! Most everyone on the planet knows of,or has seen a Mack Truck at one time or another. I never heard anyone say "Rugged as a Peterbilt truck"or "Tough as a Volvo" Former boxer Sonny Liston sure didn't hit hard as a Freightliner truck! Lol! Guess what I'm trying to say is keep up the good work!

Every time I see one of your posts I think of the many times as a young kid back in the early 60's I would come home from school do my homework (not) and go back to work with my dad, he was a truck mechanic an would go back to his shop every night after dinner 7 days a week! Most of the trucks back then were Mack an Brockway an a lota those trucks had gas motors in them and boy was my dad a wiz on those gas jobs the 427 Continental 572 as well an the EU's and EQ's LJ's LFs Mack's!! So when I hear you talk about the old Mack days.... I remember those days when we went into Newark Mack on Miller St (NJ) at night to get bearings pressed on an off or seeing the Ballintine beer mechanics getting parts for there chain drive yard horse tractors!!!! Now you can't even get F model or DM parts!! It was a great time to be a kid! Today it is all gone..... Very sad indeed! But I do want to thank you for all the many things you bring to the Mack truck site I myself have absorbed a lot of it!!!
