Sad news.

But here may be another side of a cone - it may be followed with harder technical inspection of antique vehicles.

Too sorry for everybody involved.

Никогда не бывает слишком много грузовиков! leversole 11.2012

A tragedy for everyone involved. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the deceased and the operator of the truck.

Not to get preachy, but this really brings home how important it is to keep your truck properly maintained and insured.

Money, sex, and fire; everybody thinks everyone else is getting more than they are!

Also by the sound of it, when they changed the route (after some nut unloaded 70 rounds on the normal parade route earlier in the day), to go downhill into a right hand turn its very possible the Fire truck was not at fault because the tractor driver may have been thrown into the truck when the tractor took too sharp a turn and tipped over.

They said the brakes failed after the engine stalled. Did the truck have a brake booster of some kind? Don't you still have some kind of brakes even without it?

Yes, but the engine failure is probably not the cause. My speculation is the driver was distracted by the engine failure, if that is what occurred.

Many of the early rigs had mechanical brakes, often rear wheel only, which were problematic to say the least. Basically, brake pressure was dependent on how hard you could push the pedal to retract a cable that pulled on the shoes.
