Brockway "Toughest Truck In The World"

OK Guys let's see em! I know I know ... They have there own site, but what the hay!!.... I left my chip at work so I can't post any pictures tonight but my 361 has ben posted here many times (Sorry Guy's but Brockway is still ny fav va fav truck) I've been runnin loads 2 to 3 days a week this past month from JC NJ to Northampton PA about 170 mi round trip one trip a day and the old girl hasn't missed a beat! Not bad for a 74 Brock!! And that was last week when the temp's were toppin out @ 100 + and about 120 in the cab! I always new the truck was gonna make it, I just wasn't sure if I was!! LOL Super 250 Cummins 5X4 Spicer airmatic trans was haulin about 20 ton on 3 axels Heil body top speed @2100.. about 62 mph not good on the hills (I wish the people behind would use there other 4 fingers when they wave at me) but a real torque monster! she will hold ya at 1600 and hold on there for some time,before she starts to drop I guess thats the 927 Cubes, but I still would like to turn it up to 270 hp (I'm told there were 2 HP options on this motor 250 and 270 mine is the 250 motor)

Atta'boy Ernie! I sure love to hear about a "vintage" truck being DRIVEN like its supposed to be! a lot of your "pro-drivers" nowadays don't even know what a Brockway is,much less a 5X4! I sure like to find a Brockway road tractor to restore someday,always partial to the 361 series myself. There were a ton of Brockways in South Jersey when I was a kid,along with Macks ,Whites,Autocars I miss them days!..........................................Mark

Ya in PA I can only load just over 15 ton but so far no prob. cause the only scale is the one on 78 in Jersey and I'm about 5 ton under my 70,000 gross and the load is just about water level so as not to be an eye catcher! It's usually the greedy ones that get caught!!

That red one is a 360 very nice truck and and also the other red one and I think the blue one is as well! The blue one might have a 1693 Cat or a V12-71 if it is in fact a U-360

Red 360 with dual pipes has a 318, blue one has a CAT but i dont know what model. I dont know what the other red one or green one have.

Here is my father's 1962 257 with a continental gas. Was used by Smith's in New York, titled in New York. Apparently gas was cheaper to run up there. When they close the New York terminal it was haule to West Chester and sat outside to rust. I bought it just to save it, but my father took a liking to after after he got it running. My father also has a 1975 758. I am not very fond of that truck. It is off getting painted. I think I will like it better when it is not white.

I really like that truck! any thought of restoring it to the original Smith colors? I have told Ron (39 BabyMack) how much I always liked their color scheme,really looks sharp!....................................Mark

Love the 360's & 361's! Any of the older cabbed ones are nice.Didn't really care for the newer MACK styled cab models.Probably could make an exception though!

My cousin had a 361-238 Detriot,5 speed Fuller-3 speed Eaton tandems on Neway Air.Was a real sweatheart.Should have bought the thing when he sold it for $3500.00 in the late '90's. Here is a pic when it was new in '72..................... Bill Bedell Photo

We had a used 361 for a short time, the one in the middle,350 Cummins,10 speed (it had been Huskydrive originally),pretty good truck,allthough I only ever drove it a few times traded it in on an F-Model because we needed something with a sleeper on it. The wheelbase on this one was just too short.IIRC, they allowed 2500.00 trade against the F-Model?...wish I still had it now!.............Mark

yup I agree, never cared for the R model cabbed Brockways. any 360 or 361 would be nice even with a green leaker in it.

I used to drive that truck around the yard at Bacco Constuction Co. in Iron Mountain,Mich. after graduating high school in '79,Mark.I used to service it then put it back on line with the rest of the trucks.It was fun for me because you could really get it rolling with those 3 speed eaton rears.........bang,bang,bang..shift..bang,bang,bang!!!
