I owned a crane service here in Mid TN for 40 yrs, just sold all my cranes 9-04-13. McCord is selling out now. Elliott Cranes has sold as well. It was originally a detroit 8v92 designated m761. Someone did a heck of a job putting 3408 in there. A bit before my time but word i get is not many early 8v92's went to far so and a 1693 cat wouldnt fit in 761 and v8 did. It hasn't been run in 4 years but had not problems when it was last run. It has been off the road for 10 years. It has some rust. Worst in the fenders. He is asking $3500 for it. Here is a link that I posted over on the Brockway site last year. http://www.brockwaytrucks.org/messageboard/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=4364At first look I would think its a 1955 or 1956 based on the 'B' on the grill guard but in the truck paper it was listed as a 1954. If you have any other questions, just let me know...As for the cab windows, it depended on the model. Some had them, some didn't. The nickname must have stuck from bein' a 12 yr old workin' around the McCord shops, because he ain't short..! I had to get some parts in Nashville a couple days ago, stopped and visited with Shorty for a little while. I mentioned the show in Cortland he snapped "I been there.!". I said: "Really?" He said: "Yeah, I flew in to NY, got a cab to Cortland an' drove it (the 761) home from the factory when they got it built, didn' want nobody else in it.!". I took this pic of him standing by what's left of the Autocar that was supposed to get the Cat 3408. It wound up gettin' the 92 out of the Brockway. Shorty said the 3408 has never been cracked open. Also is a pic of one of the "Jimmys" that was assigned to all the "normal" hauling. He said he will get me copies of how it originally looked. He said it was originally red with detailed pin-striping even on the wheels.
