countryboy5487 Posted August 10, 2013 Share Posted August 10, 2013 Im looking at a 57 b61 with the 711 engine and a duplex and was wondering if i could get some of yall to throw in your two pennies about it. Is it a good engine? any common problims? anything specific to look for? Ill be honest im not real fermiliar with the older trucks (pre r model era). Its a tandem truck and im loking to convert her back into a tractor, as its got a flatbed now, and pull trailers every once in a while not often but it will get worked from time to time. 220cummins Posted August 10, 2013 Share Posted August 10, 2013 Parts are getting harder to find. They had head gasket and over heating issues in the earlier years but was corrected later on with more head studs per head. Do you how many studs were in the corrected engines (or can you tell just by looking). Superdog Posted August 10, 2013 Share Posted August 10, 2013 Are you sure it's a 711? It would be a repower if the truck is a '57,as the 711 wasn't available until '62. I've never had a 711 that was in everyday revenue earning use,but I have one '65 B-61 with a 711 that did see occasional use moving the occasional bulldozer,hauling scrap metal,and moving other trucks,and it never gave me any problems. The 711 has the 2 seperate intake manifolds? and im sorry its a 56 not sure if that makes any difference. Superdog Posted August 10, 2013 Share Posted August 10, 2013 The END673 and ENDT673 where the only options then.Some 673's had the separate intake manifolds.It's hard to tell what alls been changed sometimes. terry Posted August 10, 2013 Share Posted August 10, 2013 I had a 711 in a B model dump truck that i drove every day for 10 years, I would put bearings in it at 100.000 miles or so, and put one liner and piston in it that whole 10 years.The rest of the engine was never touched.
