Update Work done so far on my new R Model

Just finished doing some work on the my 1980 R.

Pulled all the rear wheels and got out the spray gun got some action shots too, got everything painted except the rims. Took the quarter fenders off.

The white chalky looking stuff is from the rust convertor that I put on a couple days go when I pressure washed and scraped the rear frame. Before painting I brush it/wipe it off according to the directions. I am surprised that it was still on there as I pressure washed the frame again early in the morning after I pulled the tires.

I was thinking I should paint the tanks, fenders and the battery box cover with automotive paint anyone got opinions or should I use the chassis paint?

Nice find! Can that cab rust be repaired or are gonna have to buy new pieces?

Looks good! I always have used plain old Naxon acrylic enamel gloss black from O'reilly's. Mack sells some chassis paint, but I haven't used any yet. I painted my frame on my RD two seasons ago and it still cleans up good.

Looks good. I used Chassis Black from Napa which is Martin Senior paint.

Thanks for the responses, I used gloss black enamel paint but it does not hold up well long term from fade and wear that's why I was wondering about anyone that used a urethane type paint on the tanks and fenders to see if it holds up or not worth the effort.

The rust is only in the outer door panel and is repairable, I have been looking for a door as it would be easier since I have to take the door apart because I am going to redo the channel and the inside door latch is not working right.

I am planning on using rhino liner on the back of the cab below the window and across the lower 8" of the door and rockers. You can different colors so it should look good and wear well.

Went and picked up more paint and ordered new studs and lug nuts they were supposed to be in today but they never showed up, so I cut the grass.

I am doing my frame in urethane automotive gloss black once I finish wire wheeling it. It should hold up well for a few years. The body guy a few shops down from me is going to hook me up with his spray gun and mix the paint for me.
