Does anyone remember these? can't seem to find much information, pretty sure they were a limited edition like Libertys or Magnums? some special paint/graphics etc.? seems to me they came out about the time when the RD was being phased out. Someone asked me about them today, and I had very little to explain! LOL! ....................................Mark

Weren't they called the R model Legend or Legacy, something like that? Most were black, all had gold striping,I've seen green and red also. They had special interior trim and 1965 to 2004 embroidered on the seats,I think.I have a brochure tucked away somewhere.

I have seen a few round here all were red or dark green, gold badges and trim on the hood(stickers) and embroidery inside, I want to say they had a dash plaque too but I cant remember.

They were the "Legend" trucks. They were available in Red, Green, Blue and Black. They did include the gold dog on the side of the hood along with decals designating the legend package. The seats were embroidered as well.

I found a write up on them on Macks website, but I can't get it to copy and paste, and ain't smart enough to post a link,so maybe somebody else can.

But if I read the piece right, they were built to order only,so if 50 were ordered, they built 50,if 500 were ordered, they built 500.The article was dated July,2003 so a final figure was not given.

I thought I had the brochure too,but couldn't find it,i thought they were called legends or something too. Thanks for posting the pictures, the green one is what I remember seeing.................Mark

im with you on that one Mike. hate the Rd hood. never knew why they reused the RD letters either. wasn't the RD suppose to be the heavy R model back in the day? seen two of the Legend R models, both were dumptrucks I believe and both were green. they were at an auction here in upstate ny in Canastota right of the thruway about a year ago. I know they had the hood stripes like a B model in gold trim and had half dogs on the hood with 1965 -2004 on it

I've been trying to assemble pictures of these Legends ever since they came out, they are hard to find though. I actually contacted the Mack Museum last year to see if they could tell me how many were actually built; however, this model was actually done as a "trim package". So they would have had to go through every single Mack RD order in the final year of production to see how many had "Legend Trim Package" on the order sheet. Needless to say, they weren't willing to do that, haha.

Here are two that run locally for a trash hauler:

I do not care for the RD hood either,i just posted in the Chicago Macks thread that I saw a late model RD with early R-Model headlight panels adapted to the newer hood, looked pretty good too! whoever did the bodywork did a damn nice job, wish I had been able to get a picture, but it was going the other way!..................Mark

The Black one in the picture staged on the pad in front of the dealer looks identical to the unit ALL crane rental in Canada bought. I have a picture of it somewhere. better get searching.

That black one looks to be at the entry way into the Macungie plant (before Vinny stole the sign, and forced them to put the new logo one up)
