Well it was bound to start somewhere, roads are falling apart and there's not enough money to fix em so fuel taxes are the best answer even if not the most accepted. I don't know about most of the Interstates in PA(its been a while) but if the stretch from Chattanooga TN to Mt Eagle on I24 is good for 70mph anything is.

Didn't PA road woes come from selling/leasing the turnpike?

I guess they took the money and spent it now wondering how to fix the roads, kind of sounds like Washington D.C.

PA did not lease/sell the PA turnpike (IN leased the IN turnpike). There was discussion about making I-80 a toll road but that did not happen either.

OK.... if they use the money for roads but with the guvment involved some of the money will go toward studying chipmunks or investigate the proper way to fly a kite.

You may be right. There was some talk a few months ago but I have heard nothing recently. Hopefully this "tax increase" will stop any discussions.

Yea, just like the lottery monies are to go to schools and elderly. If that is correct, why do my school taxes keep increasing and where is the money to help my mom (and other elderly people)?

Years ago, the PA turnpike was "self supporting". If so, what changed? (My guess is the STATE was "borrowing" money from the PTC.)

Ct enacted the fuel tax here which is high compared to surrounding states but anyways it was suppose to pay for fixing all the roads which we need and they took the money and put it in the "general fund" for welfare, and all that stuff. Needless to say the republicans wanted to get rid of the tax last year because very little money went to the actual reason. The democrats jumped right up and made a big stink about they created it so why do they want to get rid of it and walked completely around the part about none of it gos to construction projects.

It's no secret that the roads and bridges infrastructure in Pennsy is down the shitter right now. In Montgomery County (suburban Philly) alone there are 57 bridges listed as "structurally unsound." Several are closed permanently to traffic while many have had weight limits downgraded drastically,

Anyone on my facebook knows that gasoline prices here drive me absolutely batshit crazy. I hold 100% of the blame for the high gas prices on both political parties. I blame the Demorats and the Greeny Hippies for no more off shore drilling or not allowing drilling in ANWR. I blame the (Pa.) republicans for the tax breaks being handed out like candy to the shale oil drillers. I blame the federal republicans for the tax breaks being given to big oil. I blame BOTH parties for not setting limits on how much domestically drilled crude that is being exported- why in the fuck are we importing so much oil (and paying out the ass for it) when we tap so much of it ourselves here at home, only to send it off to the zipper heads and various 'stans and 'cans?

The moral of my bitch is that yes, I understand that the infrastructure in Pa just downright SUCKS right now, and that something needs to be done.....But why in the fuck are we (significantly) raising fuel and gasoline taxes at a time when the price of both are already too high- and when the economy is still in the shitter? Nobama can tell me all he wants about how good the economy is doing these days and what a tremendous comeback we have had- if that's the case why in the hell am I still working 60 hours a week at three jobs (not to mention the wife working full time) just to keep my head out of the water??

The Feds need to enact laws to keep domestically drilled oil here for domestic consumption, to be sold at reasonable rates. Let the zipper heads and 'stans and 'cans buy the oil they need from the Arabs just like everyone else does.........

agree FDW entirely, my only thing is, Pa roads are in excellent shape compared to some of the roads in Upstate Ny yet in Ny they take almost half my paycheck for all the welfare scum who doesn't wanna work, and give them free healthcare and a cellphone, both of which I have to pay for theirs, and mine and Ny also seems to put a coat of paint, literally on the roads, 1/8 of blacktop and two new stripes and were are good to go. but this is only done on the roads that don't need it in the first place, they wont touch a road that needs to be ground up 2 feet and has frost heaves 6'' high that bounce the ass end of a single axle B model all over the road. lets repave the easy ones. AND Ny has the highest fuckin gas and diesel prices I know of and they give us a mind fucking every week by lowering the price 15 cents, then raising it 2 days later 30 cents. I total agree, drill our own wells, dig our own coal and keep it here, fuck the towelheads . let them rip off some other country with their overpriced oil. same with all the other bullshit. I can use my old school Acrylic enamels and paints in Ny, but in Ca Only it pollutes the air and gives people cancer. my soap dish ..

Jerseys getting like that with all the other BS! I used to be able to paint cars in my own garage without benefit of a EPA approved downdraft paintbooth,haz-mat suit,fresh air re-circulation devices etc. getting to be now you can't do much of anything without "big brother" checking in and telling you what you can and can't do! Jersey is one of the few states prohibiting self-service gas,yet usually the price and taxes are some of the lowest in the country! go figger!..................Mark
