The downfall of a nation starts when the children are less educated than their parents. How many kids do you see today that do not want to study or learn? The younger generation is the "give me" group...give me this, give me that. And yes it started with my generation, the Y-generation.

Kudos to Vinny and other young people who take time to listen to us "old farts" and try to do what is right for the country and mankind.

Sorry for the diversion...there should be no commercial stores open on Holidays....but there should be some basic services available...hospitals, gas stations, drug stores, convenience stores, and fast food establishments. I too remember when the only thing open on Sunday or a Holiday was a drug store and they opened at noon or later. No gas stations were open so you needed to "plan" and fill-up the day before. Holidays are meant to celebrate the "reason" and spend time with family.

In a few years I foresee "business as usual" on Thanksgiving and even Christmas.

Every generation has had people that feel they are entitled to everything they want, it seems that every generation get more and more of the "Gimmies" . What has mad it worse is we now have the Government tell people you have a "right" to free phones,health care, food, housing, college education and a income. Remember what Nancy Pelosi said about Health Care, Food Stamps, Section 8 and extended unemployment: . . . "Think of an economy where people have a god given right be an artist or a photographer or, eh just sit home and dream without worrying about keeping their day job in order to pay for the things they need to live a good life".

Of course she also said this.

You have the right to the best medical care you can afford to pay for. If necessary, payment options are available. You have the right to buy the biggest house, fanciest car, biggest TV, etc. that you can afford to pay for. Depending upon how reliable you have been paying for things in the past, payment options may or may not be available for these things. You have the right to eat whatever you can afford to pay for. If that turns out to be steak & lobster every night, good for you! If, however, you can only afford rice & beans and an occasional ramen soup thrown into the mix, so be it. If you want to eat better, find other places in the budget to make cuts or find ways to increase your budget by taking on another job, developing job skills or educating yourself to become qualified for a better paying job, or even take on additional responsibilities at your current job so that your time is worth more to your employer. Life is full of choices...and people need to take responsibility for the choices they make. Don't cry to me about being hungry when you've got a 60" TV, 1,000,000 channel package satellite TV, X-box, Wii, playstation, and are driving around in a 2014 Escalade. If you've got all that crap and you can't afford to eat, your priorities are out of whack and your hunger is not of my concern. I have no problem helping people who truly are in need of a helping hand...but if you've already got nicer shit than I do, don't bother me with your difficulties in dealing with the repercussions of the decisions you have made.

When I was a kid,Jersey had "blue laws" that meant you could not buy certain things in a department store on Sunday,the store was open,but some merchandise was covered up or roped off. Some counties would not allow truck deliveries on Sunday either. I remember being in Two-Guys (department store) with my Mom as a kid,and you could not buy reels of pictures for a View-Master! why I don't know! (please note,some guys may have to "Google" View-Master Lol!)......................................Mark

I remember that my uncle Tab, did not farm or run any machinery on Sundays or holidays. We would sit around and talk,eat,play cards. It was out of respect for God & Country.

Don't make a enough money? get a second or third job and live with in your means, Want a new car, health care or education... go to work and earn it. I worked at what ever I needed to take care of myself and my family, from burying dead sheep and horses to building laundromats to fixing anything with wheels.

I have a house I paid for and the remains of my grandmas farm, a 25 year old Dodge truck I paid cash for, a 2007 Steda Focus I paid cash for and a 1969 Mustang I built for my wife when we first got married. I still have my 55 Chevy I bought from my dad in 1969, my boat is a 1968 and my bike is a 1950 that I bought in 1968. I do still have a rotary phone in my house and a dumb phone in my pocket, My farm tractor is a 1947 Ferguson, my newest work unit is a 1980 R685. I owe nobody, Nobody!!

. I do not believe in credit cards, debit cards or checks for that matter. Health insurance I pay for my wife and my self. I could care less about T.V.'s, x box and that junk. I buy a box of nails before any of that crap, nails will work for me the other crap makes you lazy and dumb. When I was drafted I went because it was the right thing to do, I didn't like the deal, but I would never have thought of not going. I came home and picked up where I left off and never bitched about what a lousy deal it was. . . life is what you make it so make the best with what ever God gives you. Deal with what your given. You chose to over come it or wallow in it.Do Not expect me to take care of you.

Both of my sons learned at an early age that if you want something you work for it. The ethic stayed with one and sadly has be lost by the other one. He's got the latest doodad, the biggest house and the fanciest car. . Not a day goes by with out some creditor dunning him for payments. Even at that the credit card companies keep upping his limits. .and has to buy coffee with a credit card. His son stole 3 engines from me got tossed in jail, tried to steal a car from a Ford dealer right after he was let out of jail. My son and daughter inlaw can't figure out where the schools, grand parents or society failed him.

What I do believe in is God, Country and earning what you need or want. My father taught me that a man is nothing if he cannot take care of his and his families obligations on his own. Thanks for my rant time. Paul

We did not do any "farm work" other than feed the animals. No running machinery or even mowing the lawn. We went to church on Sunday morning, home for a big lunch, then either "entertain" family or go to a relative's home. To this day, my mother gets "upset" if I do any work on Sunday.

The only time I remember working on Sunday was one time we had to get some hay bales out of the field- all square bales then. I don't remember if it rained Saturday and we couldn't bale it, or we just didn't finish that field. They were calling for rain on Monday and if it layed in the field another day we would have lost it. I do remember my grandfather saying "it says in The Bible if the ox is in the mire on the Sabbath, get him out".

I always hated having to leave on Sundays, but have to do it a lot.

There are still bright spots of hope in kids like Vinny and 2stacksuperdog.

I for one may lose my way of life, but will never lose my respect for the people who earn it or my country and my own self respect. My dignity will not go either.I may end up in rags on the street in my old age but I will still have dignity and pride in my life. Moral people out number the immoral people...only the media won't show it, make those in power look bad you know.
