I would like to switch it over to a diesel and was wondering if anyone knew what other models would make good swap material. the trans is a five speed duplex which I would like to keep. steve s. Posted November 30, 2013 Share Posted November 30, 2013 The 5.9 Cummins is a nice little engine from 160 hp up. I've just gathered up everything needed to install one into a 51 Brockway, replacing the big flathead six gasser. It looks like it will be a pretty simple swap. I have for sale a running DT466 still in a truck, which I could not use, as it is too long to fit under the hood of the Brockway. countryboy5487 Posted November 30, 2013 Share Posted November 30, 2013 I agree the cummins would be a good swap but everybody else has the same idea for putting the 4&6 bt's into everything. The 466 would be a excellent transplant if you have the room for one. Simple reliable and cheap. I was originally thinking I could go with the 5.9 cummins, but I've stumbled on another early 50's Mack tractor on a nearby farm. It has a diesel in it that I'm sure would need a rebuild and I was wondering if anyone knew about the interchangability between different models and years. I'd hate to talk the guy out of the truck only to find out I couldn't use the engine. Sorry I should have been more specific in my original post. What is the donor truck model and do you know what is in it for an engine? Vladislav Posted December 2, 2013 Share Posted December 2, 2013 Look over the plans you want to use the truck for.If you need it just to go to shows there's a reason to keep it with the original engine.Gas cost some $$ but you'll save alot on a swap.There are less and less original gassers and it's a point to think on my mind.Vlad. wildeyfarms Posted December 3, 2013 Author Share Posted December 3, 2013 Vlad has a darn good point. I'm sure that most trucks get the gassers pulled in favor of a diesel. The reason I considering the swap is because I was hoping to show the truck as well as have it haul tractors to the shows as well. I don't have any specs on the other tractor yet. The guy who has it is not sure he wants to part with it and I didn't get too long to look at it. I'll have to get some more info and get back to you guys. Thanks for all the support.
