T2180 is the better transmission as far as I'm concerned.It's the older generation transmission,had 2 of them never had a lick of trouble with either one. Make sure you get the PTO neutral switch,really nice feature. I never had a PTO but used to use it in the winter to warm the transmission up.

Only had one t318,in the first Rawhide I got for my son,it shelled out with less than 500k and Mack wouldn't back it up. Friend of mine drives for a feed company that ran several of them,most failed within the warranty period.

I'll be honest,I don't know how it was set up or how it worked. both trucks were spec'd with it from the factory,just an air switch on the dash,flip it up and you could put the transmission in any gear you wanted and the truck wouldn't move
