Polishing Alcoa rims

what is the best way to clean dirty rims, these have paint and oxide on them. they are in good shape and I don't want to mess them up using the wrong stuff on them. I have 2 that are full offset and 4 that are 3/4 offset, or what ever the proper term is. these a budd style and will except a 426/6522.5. would be interested in trading the 3/4 offsets if i dont use them. i need to change the hubs to see if the full offsets will work on my Brockway.

thanks gg2

gently scrape off the paint. Maybe a soft wire brush.

I have used Mothers and Busch and had good results with both.

I prefer using elbow grease instead of a machine

I agree with Mike,if there're that bad to start,no amount of elbow grease is gonna fix them, machine polish is the only way to go,then you can maintain by hand with no problems.........................................Mark

I agree with most of the above posts. Machine Polish is best, but YouTube has taught me a lot. But on our trailers we run machined rims... And to clean them I use soapy steel wool. Makes them look really cleanly and shiney, and the water beads on them like they've just been polished. It takes about 5 mins a rim, and costs bugger all. But don't use it if your after a polished look!

WE have a wheel polishing machine at our detail shop in Knoxville. Get $70.00 per wheel - machine runs 8-10 hours per day. It generally takes about 1 hour per wheel if they are bad - need to grind them about three times to make them look good. The machine is expensive to own/maintain/use - cost about $3000 just to have it on site!

B61,i appreacieate the compliment! I do take a great deal of "pride in my ride" not always easy, but I like it to look sharp! my truck is no showpiece by any stretch, but I have been accused of being "anal" where my trucks are concerned (at least by Mrs.Vision) old girl has seen its share of dirt and weather though!................................Mark

Yes Mike, mine was factory white, when I ordered it I was still leased to Atlas Van Lines and it HAD to be white! I have only seen one other white one,one red and one blue and a WHOLE lot of black ones. But from what I was told, you could order the 100th anniversary on any color available, but don't know for sure how true that is................................Mark
