G'day can anyone help with this one? I'm curious what model it is, it's like cross between an RD800 and a DM800. As we've never had RD's or DM's here in AUS I'm guessing it would be R?800??? There's a fair chance it'll end with SX! cheers Mick

Something doesn't click, build records show there were 4 R863's built, all in '68. These should have the 335 Cummins engines for power. The caption under the first pic says they operated 5 of these with 866 V8's. There were no R897 or even RD897's ever built. There were DML897's but it only shows 2 were built. Definately a mystery

Yep now I remember Chuck Big Lorry Blog. Credit to them. Mike it was the only pic in the book that came to mind that's why I thought it was a fit. Those trucks of the pics I posted don't seem to have Cummins in them.

You don't suppose those are a DML800? there was a little over 300 built from ;73 til '82 but can't say I've ever seen one.

OK Superdog, I'm with you! We've answered my question pretty well so now I'd like to see a DML800 too! Anyone got something? This is half the the fun of it for me, tracking down the odd, different models that Mack produced over the years. Cheers Mick

p.s. are they anything to do with the detroit powered DM's seen on the net? :idunno:

Hi Rob, I think you've hit the nail on the head mate! It's not so much the export version of a DM800 but I reckon it's the Aussie version of it! Mick

Most Australian models were built on the R-model chassis (including the Cruise-Liner).

Note the export style front fenders such as seen on Macks in Iran. http://www.bigmacktrucks.com/index.php?/topic/33150-when-mack-ruled-the-roads-of-iran-part-2/

The Australian A8 R897RSX was the largest of the Australian off-highway models.
